Using PS Vita with Linux?

Using PS Vita with Linux?

Postby ndh777 » Tue Apr 17, 2012 6:37 am

I am running Ubuntu in VirtualBox and would like to connect my PS Vita to it except that I can't find any software to help me do anything of the sort. Can anyone help me? I'd just like to be able to do everything that I can with the PC basically...transfer files, etc. I like Ubuntu more than Windows 7 so that's why I ask because I use it more.

Until someone reverse engineers the PS Vita USB drivers we won't have any software like that for Linux.

vita won't connect to any pc unless you have CMA running. idk about OpenCMA that wololo mentioned on his blog a few times, but normal CMA will not run on any non-windows environment. meaning mac and linux users cannot transfer files to and from the vita

Actually CMA is officially supported by Sony to run on Macintosh. However, it is not officially supported and given out to Linux users.

After doing a little Google searching, I found that actually some of Wololo and friends' early beta stuff had to do with Linux users being able to test out Open CMA exclusively for Linux.

I haven't actually, but that sounds interesting and like it may work. Thanks.

i wouldn't entirely count on that. in my experience, wine doesn't detect usb devices, except for perhaps a usb controller (which somehow makes your computer think there are 2 controllers, one for linux, one for wine, and wine detects both). unless you somehow edit winecfg to detect them, which looks like a headache to me. and just because some says "try it in wine" doesn't necessarily mean the program will work. afaik, wine is the only way to get any windows native program to run under linux, and some programs simply refuse to work, whether for no inexplicable reason, or that it requires a .net framework to be installed, which i can't get anything higher than .net 1.0 to work from winetricks. to me, your best bet would be to run a windows OS under virtualbox

I guess I'm stuck with Windows. This version that I'm running of Ubuntu is already a virtual PC so it wouldn't make sense to use another virtualmachine lol

I think I'll try Wine anyway just to see if it works. If not, I'm stuck with Windows until someone releases a version for Linux. Thanks everyone.
