Homebrew via webbrowser

Homebrew via webbrowser

Postby Spud_Bencer » Wed Apr 04, 2012 3:46 am

Just wanted to ask why its not (maybe it is) possible. A few months ago i saw a proof of concept for the nds with a snes emulator(?) It would be nice to have something similar on the vita, would that require a psp emulator at all? If it were possible at all Sony wouldn't have a chance to do something against but to remove the webbrowser and i think they wouldn't do that. Also they wouldn't have a reason for, because no one is messing with the hardware.

I dont know much about coding just tossing around ideas :P :D

PS3's web browser can barely handle doing NES emulation via Java.

I'm not sure what all the Vita browser supports (but we know it lacks Flash, and most HTML 5 features) meaning it could be quite hard to create something that would work even through the browser.

Even if we did, we'd still likely get worse results than simply running homebrew via the in-built PSP emulator

The vita browser is unfortunately sub par. I've seen some javascript/html5 based experiments at emulators, good luck running that on the vita though...

There's also a legal issue for emulators since they are not supposed to host the roms, but that's probably the only way to get them to run in the first place...
I have a few US PSN codes to sell for a reasonable price (cheaper than pcgamesupply). PM me if interested, 1st come 1st serve basis..

I have noticed that the Vita browser even struggles with scrolling on basic webpages.

This device has so many issues that it needs 1-2 years worth of firmware updates and a few hardware revisions

I don't think it would take 1-2 years, they just need a brand new browser, homebrew contest ftw?

Or Sony could just gather some homebrew developers and commercial developers and just make a brand new browser.
It's a shame to Sony that they have such a terrible browser on a portable powerhouse

This is exactly why the PS Vita's web browser doesn't have all of the essential features you would find on Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Safari, etc. Because if we had Flash, fully functional Java, and HTML5 on the Vita, there would be far too many security holes for Sony to deal with... and the Vita would be much easier to crack open for hackers. Sony will likely continue to deck the Vita with bogus blossoms, many empty promises.
