I'm aware people are eager not to miss out on this but a line has to be drawn, right? When it's released it's released.

Most certainly... Spamming threads, pestering the dev's and trying to tell them when and how to do something is only going to make them not want to do it and stop developing all together. It's happened many times in the past... What the people who are getting all worked up about the game name not being revealed already fail to realize is that these guys don't get paid for the hours and hours of work they put into finding and then working on an exploit, it's nothing like waiting for a retail game to be released because when a retail game is released those dev's usually make a small fortune (depending on the game and the size of the company, the fortune could be huge), scene dev's make NOTHING. Most of the time they get hated on for not having minute to minute updates for free programs. Which makes me sick... Instead of giving them hell, why not direct it at the people that really deserve it? The exec's at SCEA...

alnitak wrote:The advantage is, if you know what game it is, you can download it before Sony pulls it. I don't think it would be such a big deal if the name releases weren't so time sensitive.

The reason it's done a handful of people at a time is so that it's not one HUGE rush on a single game that Sony can notice and remove/patch instantly. Wololo is a smart guy, he does things a certain way for a good reason. 8-)

The slower the release the more chance EVERYONE has to get the game downloaded onto their Vita and eventually get VHBL running.

Oh please, look at the google analytics for this site and compare that with the amazon ads EVERYWHERE here, including the recent one where he states that he gets a percent of the sales...he is making enough money from traffic alone to justify postponing the release, I mean hell, everyone is refreshing his page like every 5 seconds. almost 30K views in this thread alone. So please, do not try to lie to this web designer. I know full well about the living that can be made with web advertising. How do you think THIS american moved his 25 year old ass to Amsterdam?

EDIT: that being said, I am not against the waiting, I am totally chill. I work from home, so there's no worries here on missing the release.

Do you really think that's the reason for the delay? I find it sad that you think that and it's a bit of a joke to be honest. Sad..........
I Really should put something more interesting here :p

He's responding to where disturbed said wololo makes no money off of this.

But I don't think that's why Wololo is doing this.

But I also don't understand why he can't release the name. Wth already said everything is ready for release. So why not the name? I mean surely, enough people know now. It's been a while. 30000 views on this thread nearly.

If the name of the game was released now , it would cause a mad rush on PS Store to get the game which would inadvertently alert Sony to the larger than usual download number and then lead to the instant removal of the game.

The information is filtering down the lines, it's just a waiting game now. People/Devs do get pissed off though with people continuously asking for x,y,or z and in turn thing, why should they bother. :p

Just my 2 cents.

Yeah, its true Dev's don't get any money for this, but they do gain knowledge. Why else would devs even do this stuff at all? they do gain things from developing and putting things out there for us to test out. I am sure that wololo and all the other dev's in the psp community have VASTLY improved their knowledge of programming by developing for the psp and using the community as a testing ground for the things they develop. Not to mention a lot of dev's are recognized all over the internet, and im sure having a reputation like that isn't all bad. People trust the Dev's for the most part, and appreciate everything they do.
Honestly, IMO no they don't have to put it out there, they can keep it all to themselves..but that would be completely going against what learning and knowledge is all about. Dev's getting angry at people i can totally understand, but those dev's that "run away" from the scene because of it..is a bitch move straight up. This is the internet ladies and gentelmen, for someone to get that aggravated that they completely disappear is crazy to me, but then again i am not a developer (an aspiring one though) so i can't really say much. So yeah they spend hours and hours hacking away at their computers, but it surely isn't for NOTHING.

tbh, I can't imagine him just releasing it to his friends atm changing anything much. When he releases it there will still be a flood of downloads. And Sony will also still do the same thing as they did with motorstorm. There will be much less downloads now anyway since a lot got the motorstorm exploit. But ether way, him releasing it to say 100 friends and 10 download it per day. It still won't change much. Except that all his friends get it etc. So he probably wants all his friends to get it before releasing anything.

It's less about the download count and more about the automated crash reports the vita sends when people try to use the exploit.

By now almost all members of the forum should know about the game. The information is still not public, so don't talk about it.
If you are not seeing what you are supposed to be seeing it might be because:
- you have attention issues
- You got a warning recently
- You joined this website too recently

If you believe you are not seeing it but should be able to see it, check the 3 points above once again.
Public announcement will follow shortly.

Some people mentioned they have issues seeing the info from inside the announcement page. Try to change browser if this happens to you.

About some of the comments I saw:
I don't do "friends", I do "useful" and "trust". The details about exploits are always revealed to trusted people first, for many reasons. One is that these exploits can be more useful for these people than for "regular" people, the second is that I know they won't leak, the third is that I know they won't blame me if things go wrong. Another reason for making the release happen over a long period of time, as I already explained, is that I don't want Sony to see an unexpected spike in the sales of a given game, which would trigger suspicion. In general for these ninja releases, it means people who joined the community a long time ago get the information before people who joined recently. If you joined in march 2012, you can't blame me for being one of the last ones to get the info. Where were you 2 years ago when we opened this forum?

About advertising and money: I hope it's been clear over the past 4 years that I'm not in for the money. This site has ads, yes. It makes more money when there is more traffic, yes. People who have tried putting ads on their website know that it's not easy to make actual money out of it, especially on a forum where most users are "regular" users of the website.(This is why most ads go away when you login btw).
If you don't like ads it is perfectly fine to use adblock, we don't have any policy against that. I don't like ads much myself, but now that I have to pay for a server I understand that they are a convenient way of monetizing some work.

Overall we make more money than expected when we have lots of traffic, and that compensates for when we have less traffic. This happened last year with Pro CFW, and it happens this year with VHBL. I don't expect this site to stay popular forever, but I do expect to maintain it and pay for it for the years to come, so it is important to overall have a positive income, and not just stay "ok".
It is also worth mentioning once again that when there is more than expected at the end of the year, I try to use the remaining money wisely. For example I didn't see people complain about ads when I offered two prizes of 100$ each for the genesis competition, or another prize of 100$ for a Wagic mod competition.
If anything, I hope people understand that I'd rather have the ads money ending up in my server when I directly contribute to a release, than in the pocket of some big news websites that don't contribute much in terms of actual development. You guys are getting stuff for free, and indirectly help financially projects such as Lamecraft, HBL, Wagic, etc... personally I think that's pretty cool, and donations unfortunately are not as reliable as ads for that.

It also seems to many people that hacking is free. But I have to buy many games I never play just to test for other people's user mode exploits, there's the constant risk of bricking a piece of hardware worth 250$, not mentioning the incredible amount of time spent maintaining a site, developing, or helping people. An interesting thing for that is the "estimated" value of Wagic, if our dev team was actually paid to work on it. Obviously you'll realize that I don't make something even remotely comparable to that estimated value: https://www.ohloh.net/p/wagic/estimated_cost

This is no justification at all, but I'm just trying to put things in perspective. I would not be ashamed if I made money from this website. Not after 5 years of contribution to the scene.

Ok, let me be bold because it seems many people *do* have attention issues, based on the PMs I received over the past half hour:
this is what you should be looking for:
