Wip3out Special Edition Sound

Postby Rodyon » Thu Oct 27, 2011 10:59 pm

Hi, I've tried my Pal "Wip3out Special edition" on every POPs and the music tracks did not work on any of them...
(and for a wipeout fan like miself... game music is very important in a wipeout game...)

From my understanding it comes from lack of CDDA music emulation in the POPs that the game work, so I heard that sony converted the tracks on the original PSN Wipeout version to AT3, can it be done for wipeout 3?

Is there any way I can boot the game and make it load compressed AT3 music track versions? Is it a POP's feature or did sony hack it in on the PSN wipeout?

Thanks in advance.

you need to edit your disc image, there are many tools to convert to at3 just google a bit.

simply make an iso out of your ps1 disc, extract its contenent, convert the sound to at3 (leave the same name) and inject them back into the iso
then make a ps1 eboot out of it.

i applied a translation patch one time on a ps1 game, and it works fine on psp now.

a question: have you tried pops 3.71? if i'm not wrong that one had CDDA support (or maybe it was 3.72)

I did try W3P SE in pops 3.71 and 3.72 that have CDDA emulation... but it crashes... (at least my eboot does... It works flawless in 6.60 pops... minus the sound of course...)
Converting to At3 did give me a little trouble but I was able to convert the wav to it in the end...

The thing is, when you say keep the same name... what you means is Track 02.WAV should be Track 02.At3 right?
Paste the AT3 files in the "root" of the CD like a WAV file right?
Can I delete the WAV files or they should be kept?

Many thanks moz... i'm going to try and make a new eboot then!

EDIT:

Well I did try to make an eboot replacing the WAV files with AT3 files... and the game stops booting on every POPs.
Are you sure that just replacing the WAV files for AT3 works moz?
Does the AT3 quality/compression matter?
I used Sony Sonic Stage for the compression... (I would be wierd if the problem was using the official sony way to make AT3 files...)

After some experiencing... I concluded that replacing or removing the WAV files, or just adding the AT3 files makes the game stop booting... (I'm using power Iso so I guess it's not a problem from creating the ISO) it may be a specific protection preventing to boot the game with file modifications... or adding AT3 files just does not work that way... (it's the 1st game I'm trying to replace de WAV music files...)

Any clarification or help would be welcome!

most probably the game has some sort of lba protection, i don't really know well how it works on ps1 games, since i modify psp games mostly...

One question, only background music is missing right? but sound effects are still there right? cause sounds like menu are not cdda tracks right?

then you can just convert the music to mp3, and load it with an mp3 player plugin ingame...
this can work too...

All sounds work fine, it's just the CDDA emulation that's not working... and converting to AT3 breaks the game (protection or LBA)

Well I did think about playing the MP3 music through a plugin... but it would lag the emulation more than needed... and it wouldn't give the old feeling I had when I played it on the original PSX... and that was what I was going for...

If it's not LBA its probably some shitty protection from the old days...
I wish my programing skill's were more advanced so I could find the problem...
I guess going arround LBA isn't easy...

But I chose medical sciences over computer sciences... so there's not much more I can do, I think! lol

I guess I'll have to settle with Wipeout Pure...
Thanks moz... (you were a great help)

At least now I know how AT3 conversion works...
I'll search other games with CDDA audio to test it out, At3 greatly reduces the ISO size and the tradeback is just a small loss in audio quality...
It's a shame that it just doesn't work on W3P SE...
