[Help] UPDATING firmware version?

Hello, I recently just bought a preowned N3ds with some old rxtools and firmware version 9.5. But turns out you need at least version 9.6 to play the new Ace Attorney game.
My question is: how can I safely update my firmware while keeping my freeshop?
