New to the 3DS hacking scene

Post by YamiJustin » Sun Feb 22, 2015 9:01 am

I know pretty much nothing about it.
I have a New 3DS system. What options are there for me?
I am most interesting in bypassing region locking for foreign cartridges
Thanks

As of right now, better off getting a Sky3DS as Gateway showed a Video of the Card working on a N3DS XL, but it is coming the end of the Month, and only Sky has something that works on it. However, the Sky is Region Locked. No way to get around it. There is a item called RegionThree, but that does not work on N3DS.
Anyway, Gateway keeps saying "Soon" and "in the coming days" they will reveal N3DS Support. Also there is some hidden Feature right now, but it has been about 2-3 Weeks since they mentioned explaining it. It is like they fell of the grid. No Updates, no communication to anyone, or even on their Site.
So yeah, for now, a Sky3DS is your best bet until Gateway 3DS runs on the N3DS. Sky only plays actual Games. Meaning no Homebrew, no Emulators, no Installing the Game to your System SD Card. And again, Region Locked. Also Sky3DS can run on the Latest System Firmware 9.5 and below.
Gateway can run on Systems 4.1 to 9.2 only. It can backup a Game Card to your System SD Card, it can run Homebrew, Install Games to your System Card, and is Region Free.
Supposedly there is another Card coming out that does what Gateway can do but more, however, no real info has been released about it. So yeah, guess we shall see.

Honestly, if you are on FW 9.0-9.2. Then I suggest you wait for GW. My advice is to buy the GW now and set everything up so that you can save time on it later. Gateway shouldn't take that long to release their support. And like Smoker1 said, with GW you have access to CIA files, Emunand (which is basically a second FW, yeah you can run two FW's on one device), Region-Free games, Game Updates in the form of Cia Files (in case you don't want to use E-Shop), and homebrew support.

If you are on 9.3 or above, your best option is to use sky3ds. It's a little more difficult to use than GW but it is only dedicated to playing games from your region

Again, I strongly recommend Gateway. The wait may be troublesome but believe me when I say it is worth it.

True, Gateway released a Video showing it works on the N3DS. But that was back in November with nothing to show for it. They keep saying they will release it soon, and they even mentioned a Hidden Feature in the Current Release that no one has found yet. They said they would reveal it in the coming Days. However, that was around 2-3 Weeks ago. Seems like they have dropped off the grid. There is the possibility, that they are taking a break during the Chinese New Year, which the Festivities end on the 5th. It is quite possible that there will be a Release shortly thereafter, but just in case, it might be a good idea to have a Sky3DS just in case nothing is released or no N3DS Support if there is one.
