Recently my friend KuroAraragi wanted to play Tales of Xillia, but sadly there was no official way to get an "undub" version of the game - meaning you'd have japanese sound, instead of the annoying english/whatever dub, and your language (if it is supported) as subtitles.
In this tutorial I will show you how to do just that when you have a PS3 running an official firmware.
What you will need:
- A PS3 on ANY Firmware
- Tales of Xillia PSN version (We used the european version)
- Undub files for the game (Sorry, can't link you to those. A google search will help you out!
- KakarotoKS's ps3xport (Download) and MickL39's ps3xportGUI (Download DetrikSyS's Mod here)
- Your PS3's IDPS (IDPStealer by Flatz does the job even on OFW, google it)
- Basic understanding of what you are doing!
If you know how to use ps3xport, you can start reading over at step four!
Step one:
Make a complete Backup of your PS3 onto an external USB Device.
Step two:
Download the lastest versions of ps3xport and ps3xportGUI, which are 0.3 and 0.2 by the time I'm writing this, and replace the ps3xport.exe from the ps3xportGUI folder with the one you downloaded seperately. This is important, as the new ps3xport adds support for split files so you won't face any problems if you have large backups.
Step three:
Boot up the GUI and get your Device ID (IDPS) ".bin" file ready, which you have created using IDPStealer.
Note: All of the following is done within the ps3xport GUI!
You'll need two more files, namely the "keys.conf" and the "PSID.bin".
The Keys File is included, so we only need to extract your unique PSID.
Simply click "Extract the PSID from a Backup", open your Backup and save the file.
After you have all 3 files, open them with the GUI so it will be able to do all following tasks.
Step four:
Use "Read Index" and choose your archive2.dat.
You will get the entire folder structure of the encrypted part of the backup displayed.
Here, search for the game directory of Tales of Xillia, which is "NPEB01310" for the EU version.
It will contain a few files and USRDIR/TROPDIR folders.
When you have found it, go ahead and extract the game folder from the backup using "Extract from a Backup all Files matching a specific Path".
The path you'll have to use should look like this "/dev_hdd0/game/GAMEID", for the EU version it is: /dev_hdd0/game/NPEB01310.
After you have done this, delete the whole gamefolder using "Delete from a Backup all Files matching a specific Path" FROM THE BACKUP. This is necessary, as the delete command of ps3xport only works flawlessly when deleting whole directorys right now, not with single files sadly.
Step five:
This isn't done within the GUI:
Create a new folder somewhere on your computer and move your extracted game files into it:
Its structure MUST look like this:
X:\FOLDERNAME\dev_hdd0\game\NPEB01310
No spaces allowed in the folderpath! It won’t work otherwise.
1. Replace the entire "NPEB01310/USRDIR/MOVIE" directory with the undubbed one.
2. Replace the files "NPEB01310/USRDIR/FILEHEADER.TOFHDB" and "NPEB01310/USRDIR/TLFILE.TLDAT" with the undubbed ones.
Now, back to your GUI.
Use "Add from an existing copy-protected Backup" and pick your "FOLDERNAME" for the "Copy-protected Content Directory".
Now, wait until it has done its work.
Step six:
Recover your backup over on your PS3 and enjoy playing Tales of Xillia with the beautiful japanese dub!
