I've only recently joined the Vita Mod scene but I've been into the PSP mod scene for years.
I got to say the Vita modding/homebrew seems a little easier than PSP even though there is no USB file transfer options in place yet
I have discovered a bug though (which has probably already been discovered before), which I managed to fix.
Now I don't have my Vita on me now as I am at work so I'll do my best to be accurate with file extensions etc.
So, last night I picked up my Vita to play a backup, and noticed it was asking me to start a new game. I thought it might have been a problem with the backup so I tried a cartridge game. Same thing. I also tried a PSN downloaded game. Same thing. I came to the unsatisfying conclusion that I have somehow lost all my Save data due to some Henkaku side-effect. I have read somewhere this is a result of leaving your Vita in suspension mode for a period of time, but I can't be sure of the exact reason for it.
I tried to reboot into safe mode and then rebuild the database. Didn't work. So I resorted to exploring the PS Vita files and found something quite interesting.
This is how I recovered my data in less than 5 minutes:
1. If you open up Vitashell and navigate to ux0:user/00 You will come to a few folders all starting with the prefix "savedata" if you go into the savedata folder (assuming you have lost your data and that's why you are here) you will notice that it is quite empty. You might have a few homebrew saves in there and that's it.
2. Under that folder though you will notice a folder called savedata_org. In here you should notice your PSVITA game saves. They even will have the creation date on the right so you know exactly how long ago the save was last made.
3. Simply highlight the saves you wish to revive, and copy them back into the savedata folder.
4.That's it!
Load up a game. you should now have your save files back as you left them.
Let me know if this has helped you in anyway. I couldn't find a write up for this anywhere so it prompted me to join Wololo.net and help out the community.
