[TUTORIAL] You have VHBL running. Now what?

Post by doctorgoat » Mon Jan 26, 2015 5:14 am

I'll be adding things as I go and putting them in the simplest terms I can.

On Minis: They seem a bit wonky. I just installed Third Birthday using one, but Coded Arms failed entirely.

Rebuild your Database!
If something seems wrong or isn't working or you just feel like it,
hold power until you can power off your Vita. Then hold R, the Vita home button, and the power button.
A note on base/clone bubbles:
Your base game is what you're using to make clone bubbles. This should not be Patapon 2.

It CAN be your VHBL game, but I strongly recommend against doing that. It can be very confusing.

Use the same method you used to get your PBP for the VHBL game to get the PBP for your base.

I'm using Yggdra Union for my VHBL and I'm using Echoes as a base for other stuff. That way, I don't get confused. D:
Installing homebrew:
Get homebrew from https://mega.co.nz/#F!NlYCQITY!MU9WnA7_V98tnJC8zUxWRA. This is an archive of the homebrew from SMOKE's thread.
They're in the PS Vita folder, under VHBL.
They come in .rar files containing a folder with files inside. Extract the rar, then rop the folder inside into your save data section in CMA and copy it over like is a normal savegame.
Run VHBL. Press L. Pick the Homebrew you want, agree to installing it, and you're done.
Transfer files:
Wireless: Install PS Vita FTP Tool. In FileZilla, click Edit at the top. Choose Settings. Click Transfers on the menu to the left, set maximum simultaneous transfers to 1. Click File Types and set the default transfer type to Binary. I have been informed that this can lead to corrupted files, but with these settings, things are less likely to mess up. Expect it to be slow.
Wired: Put the files in a savegame. Transfer it across using a CMA program. Run PSP Filer to copy them out. Expect it to be slow.
Cloning a Bubble
Step 1) Install your game. Mine was Echoes. It was stored in PSP/Game/NPUZ00022.

Step 2) Open PSP FTP. Connect to your Vita in Filezilla and navigate to PSP/Game. Rename your NPUZ00022-like folder into something else. I used BONE00022 because I am immature. Alternately, use PSP Filer to do the same renaming procedure.

Step 3) Use a CMA program like OpenCMA or QCMA to transfer BONE00022 to your PC. It will look exactly like the original game did in the CMA, but it's using a different ID so it'll make a new bubble in your backups. Now it's stored as a separate game and you can transfer back both the original (NPUZ00022) and the new (BONE00022) and have them act as separate bubbles. Don't try to use your cloned bubble until you've transferred it back.

Repeat 2 and 3 until your cloning project has reached a satisfactory population. You can rename both folders the second time and have 4 separate bubbles after transferring or w/e if you want to make lots.
Sign an ISO
Step 1) viewtopic.php?p=377383 Get this.
Step 2) Get your game's PBP file. You needed this for the VHBL. Name it NP.PBP and put it in the folder with the easy NP.
Step 3) Drag and drop your game's ISO onto SIGNNP.BAT.
Step 4) Retrieve signed ISO, now packed into PBP format, from FIXGAME.
Install an ISO
Rename one of your clone bubbles to its current name with & tacked on. EXAMPLE99999 becomes EXAMPLE99999&. Make a new folder with the original name.
You should have PSP/GAME/EXAMPLE99999 and PSP/GAME/EXAMPLE99999&.

Put your eboot in EXAMPLE99999. You're done.
Modify the Bubble Appearance
Copy PARAM.SFO from your game's backup folder. Mine was, for example, at E:\vii\PGAME\42a9470604f1d445\GOAT42069\sce_sys.
Make an icon for your game. If you're using a mini, it HAS to be 80x80. If not, it HAS to be 144x80.

There are three things to edit. First is your game name. Third Birthday's was ULUS10567. Replace it with the base name for your game. It has to be the original base name, so ignore cloned bubble names. I replaced mine with NPUZ00022 since I'm using Echoes for my stuff.

Second, the long title. Try to make it one word if you can. It starts 20 bytes after the title ends.

Third, you need to replace the game title towards the end.

Now that you have the editing done, grab PBP Pack and put icon0.png and param.sfo in a folder with it. Use the command prompt and type in pack PBOOT.PBP param.sfo icon0.png NULL NULL NULL NULL NULL NULL

Copy your new PBOOT.PBP into the Game& folder. GOAT42069& was mine.

Rebuild the database.
Installing ARK-2
viewtopic.php?f=58&t=41467
Go to Qwikrazor87's thread. I approve of his concise explanations.
Installing Plugins on ARK
Grab acid_snake's Vita Plugin Manager from viewtopic.php?f=58&t=26282
extract your plugin of choice anywhere on your vita, it seriously doesn't matter
run vita plugin manager, add it using vita plugin manager, and you're done.

get plugins from the TN-V section of https://mega.co.nz/#F!NlYCQITY!MU9WnA7_V98tnJC8zUxWRA

tempAR requires the note button to launch, for example. the mega archive already has that done and it's set to L+R+SQUARE
plugin manager lets you remove 'em too.
The Zett makes a lot of video tutorials and the bubble cloning is very heavily abbreviated from one.

Thanks.
I guess my question is: What do you do once you have your cloned bubbles and signed EBOOT? What's the next step to put this new EBOOT in one of the bubbles?

That's what I'm working on right now. :p I'm keeping things updated as I go.

I believe you rename your folder BONE00022& (or whatever) and then put your signed eboot in BONE00022. Then rebuild database and run the bubble and it should run the eboot. I'm a bit busy at the moment, but I'm working on it on the side.

Multiple tabs is quite annoying, that a single page that's perfect. Even if it becomes automatic I'm sure it will help alot of people. Thank you for the tutorial and thank you also to guys for tutorial sources.

That's not your base game. That's your exploit game. I really, really wouldn't touch those. If you have to, copy ULUS10120& and rename it something without an & at the end, back it up, and restore it and you'll get a second bubble. It'll be confusing, though, because it'll be identical visually to your VHBL bubble until you modify it visually.

You can definitely clone on 3.36. I've never used anything newer.

Do you have your base game's PBP file named NP.PBP?

Have you tested to see if it's a valid ISO? The best way to do the last one is to run it on either PPSSPP or an actual PSP, with the latter being preferrable. You could even open it in 7zip or another zip manager and see if it looks alright inside.

This is what your folder should look like. Then you just drag and drop your sweet cool game onto SIGNNP.bat.

Ignore the fake_np there, I forgot to delete it. x_x

All you actually need out of the easy signnp thing is SignCFIG.TXT, Signnp.bat, and the MAIN folder.

Ok. I am very confused now. So is the exploit game NPUG98732 which is patapon 2 or the base game which I use VHBL ULUS10120

Patapon 2 is the game you're using to install VHBL. The game you're using to run other stuff is Puzzle Challenge.

I'm using a third game as a base to be safe, but if you want to use the game you're using to launch VHBL to make more clones, just make another copy of the ULUS10120& bubble and rename it something.

I have no idea why I didn't think about using the same game for the VHBL launcher and the ISO running. Probably 'cos I'm using Yggdra Union, which is 500mb, as my game for VHBL, and I'm using a crappy mini for stuff like the third birthday.

I put the sources up both because they're where I learned to do it and they deserve credit, and because they're less confusing than me :p

The Zett's guide to making custom bubbles is really good and goes slow and you won't mess it up but the way I'm describing it gets the same info across, I think
