Activating your PlayStation/Vita TV *without* updating!
Re: Activating your PlayStation/Vita TV *without* updating!
Getting activated just means you can play your games on the vita. It doesn't grant you access to PSN. If your device not activated, then you can't even play your game even if you had restored from a backup.

Re: Activating your PlayStation/Vita TV *without* updating!
I don't have my PSTV yet, but I wanted to make sure I could use this.
1. This method would still work if I updated the PSTV to 3.50, right? I can't think of why not, but wanted to be sure.
2. In this method, the PSTV is connecting to the PS3 wirelessly? It says to select the LAN cable option, but it doesn't sound like a LAN cable is used.
3. Will the Ape Escape exploit work on PSTV, or only on an actual Vita?

Ape Escape: On the Loose works with PSTV. Note: it is "Ape Escape: On the loose" on US PSN. Some say there is Ape Escape, but they are different games.SuperSoup wrote:I don't have my PSTV yet, but I wanted to make sure I could use this.

Re: Activating your PlayStation/Vita TV *without* updating!
Got my PSTV today. I updated it to 3.50, now I'm trying to activate it. I tried using VitaUpdateBlocker, but after trying to access PSN, it still said I need to update the firmware. I'm not sure if it's supposed to, but VitaUpdateBlocker doesn't appear to give any indication that the PSTV has connected to it. It says "Listening on... " then "Blocking non-related traffic is disabled" then nothing else, even once I tried to connect my PSTV. Does this mean the PSTV isn't connecting to VUB at all? Can somebody please help me?
Edit: I got the VUB to attempt to spoof my PSTV's firmware, however it says "Vita's real version is 3.5 latest version is 3.51 spoofed latest version to 3.5" Why is it spoofing to 3.5 instead of 3.51?
Edit again: Aha! Got it. Not sure how... But I got it.

Re: Activating your PlayStation/Vita TV *without* updating!
Are there users that offer this as a service? I picked up my Vita TV on the $39 BestBuy sale, on 3.36, and I bought it in hopes of a simpler exploit (should have done my research). I basically want this to be a little emulation station. I'd gladly send my Vita TV and a gift card to whoever is willing. I don't own, nor do I want to own, a PS3. I'm a one console per generation kind of guy and I was all 360'd up last gen, now I've switched to PC. Thanks, and sorry if this breaks any rules.
Re: Activating your PlayStation/Vita TV *without* updating!
I haven't seen this question answered yet, but is there a way to manually update the PS TV to 3.50?
Ive tried connecting it to PC but it says it needs to be updated. Ive tried with the WiFi off and it doesn't do anything.
Ive tried to take the memory card out of my PSV and throw it into the PSTV and it says the system needs to be updated or memory card formatted for me to be able to use it.
Is there really no way to do this?

If you can find a download of the 3.50 .pup (I think that's the correct extension) file and put it onto a USB drive, you can install it with the system's recovery mode, which is accessed by holding the power button down for long enough.
Re: Activating your PlayStation/Vita TV *without* updating!
Would you know, by any chance, if the PS Vita and PS TV have different .pup files? I found a download for the PS Vita one that i'm going to test out and hopefully It doesn't ruin the thing.SuperSoup wrote:If you can find a download of the 3.50 .pup (I think that's the correct extension) file and put it onto a USB drive, you can install it with the system's recovery mode, which is accessed by holding the power button down for long enough.
EDIT:
Actually I found 3 different ones. I checked the download links in the .xml file provided in one of the other threads and have 3 different updates for 3.50 and no clue which one to use :/ guess I try all 3
EDIT2: I just found the correct file on softpedia
EDIT3:
complete waste of time as it seems vitaupdateblocker doesn't work with 3.50 anymore
EDIT4: Borrowed a PS3, got VitaUpdateBlocker to work somehow and now everything is good! Playing multiplayer games on the PSV and PS TV is pretty cool!

The Vita and PSTV both use the same update file. I used the regular 3.50 .pup on my PSTV and it worked fine.
