You can just follow the same tutorial with Handbrake and it should work. just select the same options.

If you can't figure it out, here's the settings I use on Handbrake for the PS Vita (basicaly a summarised version of the OP, with some differences):

file format: mp4 (m4v)

Picture Settings:
960 x 544 (vita native, if the ratio of the video is not 16:9. then make sure the value for width or height does not exceed these numbers) and anamorphic: none. The resolution can exceed this (you can watch and 720p videos on the vita iirc), but I usually use the native resolution to save storage space (lower res = smaller size).

Video:
Codec = h.264
FPS = same as source, variable
Constant quality = RF 18 ~ 23, depending on target size. higher RF means lower quality, smaller size (RF of 0 is lossless). I usually use 20.
H.264 profile = Anything. The tutorial says only up to 3.1, but since update 1.80 you can use anything. I use 4.1
Tune = anything
Preset = I use medium, but doesn't really matter, although slower means better compression and quality.

Audio> Anything AAC, I usually use sample rate 48k and bitrate 160
my stuff
  • PSP 3000 White (03g) - Dual Boot (6.60 Pro-C2 and LME 1.8)
  • PSP 2000 Simpsons Ed. - 6.60 ME 1.8
  • PS Vita Cosmic Red - FW3.01
  • Sony Vaio E-Series Laptop White
  • Samsung Galaxy S4 International (Rooted)

What i would recommend using is Xillisoft Video Converter, gets the job done nicely and has subtitle support. Conversions are generally fast unless the resolution is like 1920x1080 or more. Also depends on your pc as well but i've been using it for my vita for a few years now and i have no complaints. Setting the video bitrate really helps to control the file size as well. Just my two cents anyways.

Any program better than Handbrake to convert kaoroke subtitle effects? I struggle to batch convert, have to click on burn in subtitle for each episode on survey
