Vita firmware downgrade possible in the future?

Post by deckardbr » Mon Oct 08, 2012 9:38 pm

Curious if we will ever see a way to downgrade vita firmware. With the psp the pandora's battery worked pretty well if you were on a OFW that was not able to be downgraded easily.

Of course with Vita's internal battery this would be impossible, Just curious if maybe using CMA or FTP such an exploit could ever be done.

their is a possibility that it would be possible if we some how get kernel access to the vita side. Beside, when you go into the PSVita recovery mode(The black screen) there a option to restore your psvita, maybe if we hijack that we could downgrade easily but why would you want to downgrade? so far, anything you get in 1.69 you can get it in the new version. Nothing "Really important" is removed from the new firmware. only reason i can see a downgrade is important is if they some reason remove the psp emulator from it. But in that case, i won't update to that firmware.

Why would they remove a profit making feature? The PS2 compatibility in the PS3 was not as profitable. You played games you already had from your PS2, but they never removed it from the consoles that could play PS2 games, only in new models. Now they release "HD remakes" and turn a profit on them. OtherOS was also not profitable and a potential security risk to boot.

The reason I brought up downgrading is because lets say a game comes out that requires firmware 3.0 but we're all on 1.81 so we can play psp ISOs. If we wanted to play the game (or get on psn) we'd have to update but eventually we'd want to downgrade back.

Was just thinking about the future, I'm pretty grateful the current exploits are working on up to date firmware.

There is a method in discussion between myself and a few other people, that won't be disclosed at this time, but I will say that it is possible. However, by the time we got Vita kernel access we could unblacklist the PSP exploits anyway. :P

With that emergency menu, we can actually easily modify it with CFW options. If the console get breached that is. So, i dont think we need anymore any recovery menus. Since there's one already in the system, that possibly can be modified.

I was told the e3 nor flasher made for the ps3 can downgrade the ps vita through safe mode menu.
Is this at all feasible?

Could you clarify into a simple "Yes, I can downgrade" or "No, I cannot downgrade". Because it's a simple thing. You either have a way or you don't. There's no "discussion" about it.
