Update games without updating firmware

Post by kallek » Thu May 19, 2016 12:01 pm

I don't own a PS4 yet, but i am wondering if it is possible to update games without updating the firmware of the PS4, as long as the game update doesn't require a newer firmware to run. On the PS3 it was possible to update games without logging on to PSN or updating the firmware.

I cannot say definitively but I don't see why this wouldn't work. PS3 and Vita do not require connection to PSN to download updates so not sure why this would change now.

I just thought that maybe Sony had started forcing updates on the PS4. Nintendo has started to automatically download updates on both Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. I don't know about Xbox One

On PS3, if you wanted to sign in, you had to update first. Otherwise you could just boot your PS3 and do whatever you want including updating games. With CFW you could install a ''spoofer'' and sign-in without having to update.
