Deleting old owners account

Post by rbthompsonv » Wed Oct 08, 2014 2:19 pm

Hey guys, I bought a console online and the old owners information is still in the PS4. When I go to delete the account, it gives:

The following User will be deleted from the PS4
Alexis Santiago
If you delete the user, that user's application saved data, screen shots, and video clips will be deleted from the PS4

Click DELETE

Alexis Santiago has activated this system as his or her primary PS4. It is recommended that you deactivate the system before deleting this user.
Do you want to deactivate this PS4 for Alexis Santiago?

Click YES
then it reports:

Cannot deactivate this OS4 for the following users.
Alexis Santiago
Sign in to PSN with these accounts and try again

Click OK

So, how do I get rid of the old user information? Ive already created an account, set the machine as my accounts primary, and have a year of PSN.. its really annoying to keep seeing this guys account on my system

FYI, i have tried contacting the previous owner... i dont know if theyre lazy or stupid... but they say theyve linked the account to another PS4 and that i should be able to delete it... however it doesnt work... And theyre being less and less responsive with my nagging them to remove their account information from this system somehow...

==============

sorry... forgot to ask...

does anyone know how to get around this? can i do a factory restore or something? or will it lock the system somehow if i try? or will the account still be linked?

All it's telling you is if you delete the user his primary PS4 will still show as this one and that's his problem. He should've deactivated it. You will lose all of his stuff but you already know that. Just delete it. It won't hurt anything. Don't worry about deactivating. It doesn't affect you or the system one bit!

But he wrote that the PS4 does not allow deleting it, that's his problem.

To OP: Turn off your system. Press and hold the power button for seven seconds. This should take you to a service menu that will allow you to do a system restore at a lower level.

I thought he said it wouldn't allow him to deactivate it from the old user. If that's the case then tell it you don't want to deactivate!

Edit: You have to sign in to PSN to deactivate and without his PW you can't sign in. Just bypass the deactivate and restore it!

Still better to do a system restore. If I bought a used PS4, I'd still want it as it is "out of the box".
