PS Plus: 15 Months for $32 Strategy! (Still $50)

Post by JeoWay » Thu Jun 20, 2013 4:57 am

I suppose you read up about the PlayStation 4 requiring users to have an active PS Plus Subscription for Online Multiplayer? Well, I suppose your a bit frustrated with this and I can tell you now that there are certain ways/methods to get extra PS Plus Subscription time for free! If you don't know what PS Plus is, it is basically a service provided by Sony that guarantees you to get at least 3 - 4 full PS3 Games per month. 3 - 4 free PS Vita Games per month. Soon, 3 - 4 Free PS4 Games per month!

STOCKING UP ON EXTRA SUBSCRIPTIONS FOR FREE!:

Guess what? Sony normally offers users to purchase a 1 year PS Plus Subscription and get an extra 3 months for FREE! How to do this? Be on the lookout for offers/emails from Sony (or look in the ad bar at the top of the XMB). Sometimes this offer will appear.

So if you wait and purchase a 1 year subscription for $49.99 when this offer turns around, you will get an additional 3 months for free.

PS Plus 12 Month Subscription = $49.99
PS Plus 3 Month Subscription = $17.99

12 Months + 3 Months = 15 Months.
$49.99 - $17.99 = $32.00

If you claim this offer at some point, you will technically only be paying $32 for 15 months of PS Plus! Great Online Service. Free games across 3 different PlayStation Platforms. Online Multiplayer (PS4 Only), cross chat. Amazing right?

NOTE: PS PLUS IS ONLY REQUIRED FOR ONLINE MULTIPLAYER! IS NOT REQUIRED FOR ALL OTHER SERVICES!!! (Such as Netflix, YouTube, Music Unlimited, etc)

mmm...

I see what you said, but just a few corrections:

A) It's not really a "strategy", yet it's awesome you posted this as some people don't know :)
B) you're technically still paying 49.99. You can't exactly reduce the price, despite getting 3 months free. That makes no sense at all.

Actually you're paying like $3.33 per month, assuming you *always* get the three extra months deal, which you presumably won't be able to. Your math says it's only $2 a month, which is wrong. Also, even if it made sense to subtract the cost of a 3 month subscription (which it doesn't), if you're already buying a year subscription then you'd probably continue to buy year subscriptions. So you're "saving" 1/4 the cost of a year subscription, around 12 bucks, as opposed to the 17.99 amount that you use, and you're still paying $49.99 up front for each year.

Your paying $49 for the year. But getting extra for your money. Meaning your getting extra value to what you spent. You can actually purchase ps plus during your current ps plus period which then adds on so you can accept the deal between any of the 15 months.

It makes sense if you think about it through the extra value of what your getting.
Main point is, that people know they can get a longer sub period for a standard 1 year sub.

No it doesn't, since getting free extra time doesn't reduce the cost of the initial purchase.

It also makes no sense even if you value budget expenditures on a yearly basis, as even if you can get the 15for12 renewal each time, you're still paying $50/year for 4 years. Until the 4th consecutive renewal, the gain is zero.
After this time, you've recouped a years worth of costs.
Even though buying three months as a time is $18, that doesn't make its wholesale value $18. Its wholesale value at a yearly rate is $12.50
As such, the total saving of this are $50, not $64.

Its an occasional offer. Not a secret discount strategy as claimed here. Totally misleading.

It was mainly to say "Hey, claim this offer first so you have 15 months to claim it again."

good deal bad math
$49.99 (12 months) + $0 (3 months) = $49.99 for 15 months

I see that, but technically if your getting an extra 3 months you mentally spending $32 altogether.

Sony gives you the $17.99 value for free. You saved $17. You mentally spent $32 if you think about it.

But hey, I like to think outside the box, or triangle. Or whatever you want it to be.

Yes, but no one who buys by the year would think $17.99 is a good deal for 3 months, hence the usage of $12.50 instead. Also you should think outside the rhombus.(box implies something 3 dimensional to me, so this is not simply a superset of "think outside the box") I also like "think over the balbis" or "think around the Penrose tiling." lol

Also it might not matter how much you mentally spent, since your bank account/credit card bill still went down/up by $49.99. =)
