PS Plus Required for Online Multiplayer: Its still worth $50

During Sony's Press Conference they announced that the PS4 will support PS Plus Features and will require PS Plus to be able to play their games online. All users will be able to access their previous content from original PS Plus and their saves, along with more free games at the same less than $5 per month. Users will also be able to access all Sony Services such as Netflix, YouTube, Redbox, Music Unlimited, Video Unlimited, and more without the PS Plus Subscription.

On a basic, each device (PS3, PSVITA, and PS4), will receive 3 games per month, per device. Meaning that within a year, if you have all three systems, you will receive nearly 108 free games per year! Along with great online services such as,

-Free Games
-Huge Discounts (10% - 75%)
-Great Exclusives
-Automatic Updating
-Online Game Save
-Full Game Trials
-Early Access to Content
-Gets better each year

With this being said, Sony has not only made a great quality and affordable console known as the PS4, they have created an amazing service that allows users who can't afford games the ability to get 108 free games per year on 3 different PS Plus enabled devices for less than $5 per month.

Sony has done a great job and has gone in the direction we have all wanted. Great Online service. Although you must pay for multiplayer, it is very good to see Sony offers much more to make that $5 per month worth it. Every Penny of it. Microsoft has definitely gone down in the gaming industry after losing 2 generations in a row.

Don't worry though, PlayStation Network online multiplayer will only require PS Plus for PS4 Games. Your PS3 and PS Vita will not require PS Plus, but I HIGHLY recommend getting it.

I highly recommend it. Iv'e had it here for a year or so and I still love. My current subscription lasts until May of 2014. Then I'm going to add another year and 3 months then hopefully re-new my music unlimited subscription

I remember reading an article a few years ago where Sony stated PSN will always remain free. I don't know if this "PS+ is required to play online" has been taken out of context but if so then I hope Sony will address this at some point.

I want to hear it from their mouths if it will or will not be required. I've only read articles saying it's required but I haven't seen Sony say it themselves. If it comes out that PS+ is just required for their news services (like Gaikai, ect) then I'll probably continue to be a free user.

Yup. Its still hard to tell whether or not. They kind of combined ALL the word together. So the meaning was kind of hard to get at.

They said it will remain the same. PS4 users will also get 4 free PS4 games near launch date (includes Drive Club)
