Well, lol. Here's my two cents:
PS4:
- powerful, but locked down by the OS. At the end of the day, all those awesome system specs don't actually matter that much as games are getting about half of them.
- you bought all the PS3 games ever? Good for you, now buy them again for use with our cloud mumbo jumbo, otherwise no PS3 games on the PS4 for you.
- same applies to PS1/PS2 games. Will only run via the cloud emulation service, will need to be rented/re-purchased most likely.
- you bought all overpriced PS3 accessories we threw at you? Good for you, now buy them again.
- inb4 Sony makes the PS4 practically always-on as well.
- spies on you and reports back home.
- free PSN where you get banned and lose all your purchased games if you ever dare hack/mod any of your consoles.
- crappy customer support that tells you you're incompetent if their advice doesn't work.
Xbox one:
- same specs as PS4, bloated MS Windows 8 (or three?), tries to be everything else but a gaming console.
- you bought all the Xbox 360 games ever? Good for you, but you won't play them any more. Instead, here's some ports we did in 5 minutes you can re-buy.
- you want to sell your game because you bought it before the reviews and it sucks so hard? Only if we buy it back.
- you bough all overpriced Xbox accessories we threw at you? Good for you, now buy them again.
- freaks out without Internet for more than a day (practically always-on).
- inb4 the xbox one kinect hacks.
- paid XBL with ragey 10-year olds (*not necessarily 10 years old, sometimes up to 40).
- will replace your console if it RRODs. Might send you back a console-ID-banned console (*only in very rare cases).
Wii U:
- not nearly as powerful, but doesn't actually seem to care at all. Resource efficiency anyone?
- continues where the Wii left off, and does what it does best. Games with local co-op and various other party games. Now tell me the PS4/Xbox one will have those.
- plays all the Wii games you have just cause.
- uses all the Wii peripherals you have just cause.
- just works.
- has crappy security, easier to mod than the PS4/Xbox one.

Ah, yes. But the Vita should really come into play with the PS4. All that integration, remote-play, cross-play, etc. They wouldn't lead us on again would they? /sarcasim

I'll happily have my PS4 permanently connected to the internet if I can well-and-truly play my favorite console games on the go.

Wonder if the Vita will have as much cross/remote play with the PS4 and it gets with the PS3.

most games do use half of that power, but there are some games that do use its full power, take into consideration that software does not evolve nearly as fast as hardware does, in the software world it's either ease to program for or speed, you can't really have both

interesting how nobody cared about this in the old school, why didn't people care that the SNES was not compatible with the NES? why didn't people care that the Genesis was not compatible with the Master System?
Besides, when you buy the PS4, you buy it to play PS4 games, not PS1/2/3, I do love Backwards Compatibility, I love playing PS2 games on my PS3, but I also understand that it's just a side feature, not an important one, I care more for actual PS4 games, and I don't want the PS4 to turn into what the Vita is: way too many PSP games, not as much actual Vita games.
Xian Nox wrote:- free PSN where you get banned and lose all your purchased games if you ever dare hack/mod any of your consoles.
that's actually not true, sony is not known to ban PSN users cause of hacks, XBOX does, but sony not as much, they only fight hacks by updating the software and having you choose between hacks and PSN, and it works for them like that, and I have nothing against it

you forgot to mention this:
- sells you 7 year-old hardware for double the price
- uses proprietary disc technology that's actually a mod of already existing technology with extra added security
- same games over and over again with only the names and a few stages changed, kinda like CoD but for pretty much every game (Mario bros, bras, bris, brus, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, pi to the power of 5, etc, Zelda 64, Zelda 64 3D, Zelda 64 U, Zelda 64.5, Zelda 64 with Mario replacing Link, etc)
- no 3rd party support, so you gotta suck what 1st party throws at you, which is what I mentioned in the last point
- no non-gaming disc support, or any actual multimedia capabilities

That is true.
My point was more like how people are overly fanboish about how the PS4 and Xbox One have such superior hardware, when actually half of that hardware will be locked down.

What I don't like about Sony's "backwards compatibility" strategy is that I have to re-buy games I already own if I'm to play them on their new hardware. I see this as a waste of money on my side, so I will simply stick with the older device until the new one has dropped in price, and has enough titles that would interest me. What I don't like about Microsoft's strategy is that they'll simply be selling recompiled versions of the same games with a ": Reckoning" or something slapped on the name. It's fast, it's cheap, and it's expensive for me because I'll be paying twice for what is essentially the same thing.
Yes, no company is obliged to make their consoles backwards-compatible, that doesn't mean I like it when they offer me old products I already have access to on prices that have nothing to do with their actual market values.

Both Sony and Microsoft do it. And going online with a PS3 on CFW is certainly safe.

I should have included those, you're right.

In terms of raw power, the PS4 is more powerful than the One.

This chart assumes the specs are finalized.
Until there is an on the store shelf model to compare, its all just corporate showboating.

And lets be serious, 8gb of 5500Mhz GDDR5 RAM? Not going to happen, short of the PS4 costing 2 grand (or Sony bears so much of that cost themselves, they are put into bankruptcy.)

that's what apple wants you to think, that good hardware costs a lot, that's bull*****, what I'm actually impressed with is the CPU clock speed, 1.6Ghz? really? either next-gen is all about GPU or these CPU's are alien-made
