PS4 Backward compatible or not?

Post by foxsevent » Thu Jan 24, 2013 1:13 am

I have a question and i'm interested what you people think on this matter.
With the recent supposed PS4 specs leak sporting and AMD CPU and ATI GPU theres no chance for backward compatibility for PS3 titles due to different architecture, of course "Sony" could try to make an emulator but that would be insanely hard.
What i would like to know what going to happen to the stuff thats on PSN/SEN mainly PS3 titles? it's a given that PS4 will support PS1/2 games and MINIS but thats about small percentage of PS Store.
Of course the PS3 will continue just like PS1 and PS2 for some years i say 3-5 (very optimistic) but what after that will "Sony" just delete all this stuff, when if PS4 would have BC they could milk this cow for another decade or so i know i would keep buying PS3 games theres still like a 100 games i still would like play for it.
BC is one of the reasons why PS2 is one of the greatest consoles cause we could continue to build our PS1 library and this would highly extend PS4 library of games.

So what is your thought on this matter?

IMO It will be like the PSP and Vita stores. Both separate, and the PSP store still has games the Vita store doesn't. So they'll just keep them, but have them separate but some of the content wont be view-able through the PS4 store.

Well yes but PS VITA has PSP emulation so they do add games for it, making PS VITA future proof for PSP titles just the same as for PS1 games.

ps3 emulation wouldn't be that hard for sony,
sense they know ALL the ins and outs of the ps3, unlike everyone else.
look at ps1 on the vita, we still cant git sound to work half right yet
sony has little to no issues working with it lol

but bc is (as always) a booster for lunching a system, as a means of holding the new system over till it gains a big enough library to sustain itself, and allow users to refill they're bank account
its not like you had to trade off your ps2 for a ps3 after 2009, sense you can by ps2's for about $5-$25 even then, even the sony ps2/tv combo's are under $125 now(you will not git better looking ps2 games then these tv's)

but i do expect ps4 hdd's to be more like 360 and no were near as user friendly, might even lose ps1/2/3 emulation by using generic non-ps4 brand hdd's like the 360 dose(arcade's/4gb slim's don't do this, as they have the emu partition built into the inboard flash)
and eating thrifty maid noodles because of it......seriously!?! off brand noodles.....ouch i got burned by tech support.....ouch........

Well i have to disagree with this and just point to how "Sony" is handling PS2 emulation on the PS3 a PC PS2 emulator (PCSX2) has better performance and compatibility then PS3, even their PS1 emulator is not perfect.

Thou i still hope they will come up with something.

As for HDD space i think "Sony" learned their lesson that putting a console with a 20GB HDD nowadays is ridiculous i'm speaking about the first PS3 phat models, the new 12gb super slim are understandable cause this was released for people who want to buy their own HDD, they implemented this 12gb flash memory cause PS3 in order to run must have some data space.

Well it is now confirmed by Inside Gaming that PS4 will have AMD CPU and ATI GPU so chances that it will be backward compatible are low.

All will be most likely reveled on the 20 of February.

I don't think there's any chance as the hardware in PS3's expensive and software emulation for such a high-end system hasn't even been achieved on extreme PCs yet. It's kind of *** as I'd like to play Versus XIII but KH3 takes precedence and as that didn't come out on the PS3 I'll have to get the PS4.

There's no way the PS4 could emulate PS3 games...unless the hardware really is 10x as powerful as the PS3. Even then, it would be lacking in compatibility, and probably wouldn't be too stable.

it's far more easy for sony to make ps3 games emu-able in the ps4 then a bunch of random devs
so the ps3 on pc thing is still far off for the random devs, sony on the other hand can do it fairly fast if they wanted, they have all the know how for it anyway
