Help/Information about E3 flasher

Post by dmaskell92 » Sat Sep 27, 2014 4:37 pm

Welp my brother updated my CFW PS3. I would like to downgrade it. Is the E3 flasher the only thing I need? It's a second gen PS3 fat (no PS2 BC).

Check here if it has NAND or NOR flash.
E3 Flasher only supports NOR, but i think there is a flasher for NAND aswell, i just can't remember the name right now.

Hardware-wise it is the only thing you need, unless you want dual boot, then you need a eSATA docking station and another hdd.
Also for dual boot, you need to solder, which is not needed if you just want do downgrade and install CFW.

Feel free to ask more questions, but i highly recommend to find an up to date tutorial before you start.

You need HDD connected to be able to use the E3 Flasher because part of the installation process is updating the board firmware while in XMB.

CECHH01 is NOR correct? I appreciate the help.

My PS3 is banned from modding online, so dual booting OFW isn't something I'm interested in. Also most of my physical PS3 games are ruined so my HDD is sort of important. Does it format everything?

Depending on what firmware you're on, It's better to use a flash patcher.
Basicly, you make a backup with the flasher, then patch it with a program, restore it, and then install any 3.55 CFW.

Also, be sure to reset your syscon after you downgrade. Just install Rebug 3.55 after restoring flash and you'll be good.

I actually don't care about what's on my HDD. Can anyone refer a link to what I should buy?

I got my backup flasher on ebay for like $50 and it is an official one. That's the biggest thing you gotta watch.
Or you can go to the official site http://e3-tech.net/ and click on the distributor tab.

You will also need an E3 Card Reader. It's used to get in and out of factory service mode.

Here is a pack I made a while back with all files needed to downgrade the original way. It has the official E3 manuals in it and iirc it tells you how to downgrade too.
http://www.mediafire.com/download/zaa24 ... ngrade.rar

NOTE: This is the only link I know of that has the official E3 flasher files. You cannot find them on their site anymore for some reason.

EDIT:
This may be of better use:
http://www.psdevwiki.com/ps3/E3
Has everything you need to know along with tutorials on how to downgrade. Also the card readers can be hard to find nowadays, so again I'd recommend the flash patching method and it's a lot easier. But this depends on what firmware you're on.

Examples:
4.65 OFW
4.60 OFW
4.55 OFW

Do you have to use that specific E3 Card Reader when downgrading or will any MicroSD card reader work?

I watched this youtube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cwJrw9ZFoOI where a guy seems to be using some other type of card reader (about 20 minutes into the video).

I'm not really sure, what SMOKE means. All i had to use was an MicroSD that was put into the E3 hardware, to update E3's Firmware and to back up the PS3's flash and restore the patched flash files. Of cource you also need some way to read this MicroSD card on your pc (i used an SD adapter which i put into my notebooks sd card reader)

So is there anything special about the E3 Card Reader then or is it just a regular MicroSD card reader?
