PS3 Slim no power, psu fine?

Post by lacrimosaangel » Thu Mar 06, 2014 11:36 am

Hey guys, long time no post... Wondered if any of you could help?

I have a couple of ps3 slims here that were given to us by a friend, but they don't turn on.. They have no lights on the front when plugged in and no bleeps, blips or fan activity.
The PSUs are fine, we've tested them in our slim and boots fine. We put our PSU in the other ps3s and nothing, no lights blips or fan activity yet our ps3 boots perfectly fine with all 3 PSUs and power boards.

What could possibly be causing the error and does anyone know the voltage readings the power circuits should be? We have all the standard equipment for reflowing/reballing but have never come across this problem before!

Thanks!

No damage to any of the cables, we've test booted with nothing but the power button pcb plugged in.
No power buttons damaged, we've swapped out our working pcb from our own console and still nothing, the existing pcb's work in our console
No burning smell, no scorch marks and no blown caps or micro fuses. All resistors appear to be intact

Sorry for not clarifying earlier ^^ Our mate who gave us the ps3s said that one of them booted about a month ago. He put it away and then didn't have time to fix them so gave them to us... I'm currently thinking maybe there's a microfracture in the motherboard, possibly across one of the tracelines :\

sounds like bad mother boards
could be any of the small fuses on the board

is the power studs on the mother boards corroded? or dirty?
post some pics if you have a good camera

See, that's what we thought, but all the micro fuses and power studs etc look fine.. no dirt, no corrosion and no burnt spots.. Will try and get some photos over the weekend.. Am starting to think it's a lost cause

Has the original owner used any "unorthodox" repair techniques on them in the past?

No, both had warranty seals intact before they were opened by us... Power PSU on one was faulty and started working fine once replaced and the other apparently had a faulty disk drive. Both put into the cupboard and forgotten about until recently, when it was discovered that both boards have stopped working :(

Maybe the Broken PSU, when it was in them, did some damage to the boards?

no damage at all, the boards were secure in the consoles, stored in boxes :\
