My ps3 can't read disk anymore :(

Post by Harakiri_Robot12 » Mon Oct 14, 2013 1:50 pm

Anyone know how to fix this problem? I tried doing the PS3 "self cleaning process" and the "rebuild database" process but every time I insert a disk onto my ofw ps3, the disk won't read and all I hear is the insertion/clunk noise...

Please don't tell I have to replace the Blue Ray lenses :/

Cause that's the last thing I want to do

The ps3 has a built in Self cleaning mechanism, there are two ways you can initiate the process, the first way by using the ps3 for a long time, and the second way by "unplugging the ps3, hold the eject button for 10 seconds, plug in the power cord, and then the ps3 fans rotate at max rpm to filter out the dust inside the ps3"

I, really am trying to open my ps3, cause I don't want to mess up my ps3 :(
and repairing it is just out of the question (for now)...

its really not that hard to dismantle a ps3 but there is always a chance you
can break it so maybe better safe than sorry and leave it. hopefully someone
else has some ideas. good luck

Sorry, I replied really late, but I was having disk reading issues with the ps3 slim

It still can't read ps3 games, so I just left it alone for about 2 months

the self cleaning "mecanism" is for fan dust and other acumulated dust, not to clean the laser, you will have to open and clean the drive, you will be ok, disassembling the unit to reach the disc drive is easy, even disassembling it completely is easy, anyway you will be fine, if you get in trouble just watch some youtube video :)

sorry about the even latter reply back, been ill

sense its a slim it dose not have a daughter board for controlling the disk drive,
they're are 3 different drives for the slims though. look on the back and find the model number on a sticker on the back, or bottom in rare cases, and find a matching drive online for replacing it

or you can try cleaning the lens in the drive with a q-tip and a dab of rubbing alcohol(be very gentle)
some times the drives data cable can be loose too and cause all this

its really easy to do the swop out of the drives, just open the case , lift the drive slightly and unhook the data cable from the motherboard and the old drive is out, if you want to try cleaning the old drive's lazer lens then try it at this step and put it back in the same as it came out, or just put in the new one same as the old one came out

that's about all there is to it
and eating thrifty maid noodles because of it......seriously!?! off brand noodles.....ouch i got burned by tech support.....ouch........
