as long as the rsx is around 116-129%f
and cpu can run around 165-178f
this is why the cpu is often the only part to reflow after a red blinker( trust me youll get much better reflow with just doing this one chip)

lead-less solder breaks down at around 180-200f and degrades to around 160f eventually

lead is a stabilizer after all in solder....and it shows as they dont have very good replacements for it
temps of the internal boards of the ps3 temps can hit 200f but usually stay around 98-160f with good airflow

all my notes are from cecha01 -cechb01 models
newer units should run cooler as a norm

nice mods guys i should show off my liquid cooled ps3 on here some time if i can remember to post it
or just the lid to my ps3 off lol

Whats the safest temp for a PS3 to run?
I've researched a bit and came to the conclusion that the overall safe temperature of the system mostly depends on the operating temperature of the thermal paste, which is between 0 and 50 degrees celsius. It varies between different thermal pastes, but that's about the general temp. Like I said, the fan must not be either too noisy nor too quiet.

I once bought one of those USB leds to light the keyboard at night and connected it to USB, the leds where in the tray where all the card readers are. It was a nice mod that didn't require opening the console, and I could choose not to have it on by simply unplugging it. I no longer use it as I think it's a waste of energy that may pump up the power supply, which may cause it to heat up more, and I want to avoid that.
