Could be hardware. Are you getting a Yellow Circle of Death when you turn the console on ?

If you need US PSN Codes, this technique is what I recommend.

Can you try your PS3 on a different A\V cord? If so try it, the problem could be the cord.

Something could be fried. I would tell you to check it, but unless you're skilled you shouldn't.

If it were HDMI I'd suggest you to double check, but since it's not I'm highly surprised that BOTH your audio AND your video outputs are broken, and that on top of that the PS3 doesn't recognize this as a hardware failure (YSOD).
This is super suspicious... are you sure it's not something highly stupid such as "duh, I forgot to plug the TV in" or stuff like that? I'm asking 'cause my wife has the awful habit of turning all my hardware off every time she gets the opportunity... and sometimes I'm like "wtf, the sounds is not working???" just to realize that she turned the amp off

Try a video/audio reset?
After you toggle on the master power switch (on the back), turn on the console by pressing and holding the power switch (on the front) until the console beeps a second time. This resets the display and audio inputs to auto-detect. This has fixed my ps3 numerous times when I change between tvs and forgot to change the settings beforehand.

I mean, when the PS3 is off, hold the power button. It'll beep once to signal its turning on, and after a moment or so it'll beep a second time, and then let go of holding the power button.
