new ps3 model 4011x

Post by jd20dog » Sun Jul 15, 2012 11:53 pm

there is a new ps3 model on the way from the looks of it
the 4011x
from the pics and documentation on google and ps3gen look interesting as it will be smaller then the slim
but the real kicker is the new hdd sizes with a CECH-4011A 16gb,CECH-4011B 250gb, and CECH-4011C 500gb

yes i typed that right, "sixteen gigabytes"(16gb)
The discovery comes from Anatel, the Brazilian equivalent of FCC, courtesy of Tecnoblog.

here is the ps3gen posting::

http://www.ps3gen.fr/playstation-3-slim ... 26489.html

google translate link to ps3gen post::

http://translate.googleusercontent.com/ ... TQr5aHqhgQ

note the sony document in the pics, as it list the CECH-4011A
and the size comparisons pic with the 3 models next to each other, this makes it the smallest if the pic is true

my issues with this are as follows:
1.i believe this system was a slim prototype as ive seen the style before the slim was announced but this could be sony waiting on part prices to drop or something similar and releasing it later

2.i hope they bring back the ps2 compatibility but i don't think this will happen so ill list it as a complaint

3.the 16 gb hard drive......what the heck?!?! is this supposed to be a sick joke? if this is true , im wondering if the new model supports any multi-media as this is very small, the DC universe game is 18 gb on its own as are several more games

4.if you look close it doesn't have a disk slot, though there is an eject button leading me to think it has ether a tray or a flip top like the slim ps2

the rest are just debate questions

5. will sony try to utilize a nonstandard hdd type? it will be the vita again. it is possible

6. i wonder if they're going with a new menu like the vita...seems like a legitimate concern to me

what are every body else's thoughts on this topic?

So I'm guessing it's going to be like $100US because it's only got a 16GB HDD?!?

There has to be something that Sony isn't telling us about the storage for this new unit.

1: The PS3 4k system is designed to be cheap to produce. The PS3 is old enough to collect seniors benefits, and making a new high-end model wouldn't be practical (it wasn't even practical when it was first released.) Its a low-cost measure to clear out remaining PS3 game/accessory stock.

2: Sony will never bring back direct PS2 compatibility. Only ported PSN versions and possibly their future streaming game service will do so. I'm far more curious which parts/capabilities Sony has removed from the PS3 4k.

3: The 16Gb model sounds like is a public testbed for a streamed only console. Sony has been toying with the idea of a always-on/streaming-only console, and this will give them an idea of the palatability of little storage encouraging users to pay for the streamed service instead of having content locally.

4: I do hope that's toploading. Tray loading is far more prone to disc skipping, scratching, and other hazards that being free-floating causes. (Some PS3 Slim models had issues with breaking discs if it the system was turned off with a disc in the drive, for example.)

5: Sony does like money, so I wouldn't be surprised if they tried, it. Though with their dire financial circumstances, fronting the money for such major format replacements could simply dug them deeper.

6: Unlikely. The PSVita was a new system, the PS3 is not. Swapping in a new UI on a single revision seems an unnecessary waste of resources, as all models must still be supported until the PS3 is abandoned. If it does get a new UI, the other models will no doubt get it on a future OFW update.

1 i can see your point but the ps3 stillhas a lot of life left to give oven at 6 years old, more then i could say for a lot of electronics

2 i noticed the trademark list on the front under the disk drive(?) has fewer logos though to blurry to tell whats still there

3 i had forgotten about them talking about a cloud gaming thing, good point on that, i can see it being usable in city's with fast broadband but for my ***-hole city this will be a pipe-dream to say the least

4 i always had the issue of toplaoders cracking the disk as the spring clips would make cracks spred though the disk(ps2 slim) but if it has a clamshell holder that holds it from top and bottom and not pressing out the center hole, should be ok

5 i can still see a hdd change as posible though, like 1.5in drives or something

6 yeah but i would see it more as something to help promote the vita/ps3 compatibility as the 2 most powerful gaming systems on the market
i dont see the ful change but enough to match them together, like the floating bubbles with a sort of dreamcast click and select menu as you go though and select what you want, sorry i cant explain it very well
and eating thrifty maid noodles because of it......seriously!?! off brand noodles.....ouch i got burned by tech support.....ouch........

I would be REALLY sad if Sony started a "Streaming only" trend in the gaming market... I really don't like the idea of not being able to have an actual physical copy of the games that I own. Streaming is only a good idea for movies/TV shows, not for gaming.

Look at the "Sega Channel" back in the mid 90's, that didn't last very long... If Sony did implement the "Streaming only" I really hope that they don't do what Sega did which was changing the games available line up every few weeks. It made it really hard to complete games that took more than 10+ hours (like RPG's and platformer's with no save function)

Sony bought Gaikai, a streaming game service earlier this month, for planned integration it into the PSN. Sony will stream content, its only a question of what and when.
And Onlive is ushering in ushering it in, not Sony. They are simply hopping on consumer control bandwagon.

And Streaming is pretty bad for me as well. Setting aside the "you don't actually own anything and we could leave you with nothing at a whim" issues, capped monthly bandwidth make streaming services cost more than buying physical copies of the services themselves due to ISP overage fees.
Plus its not like Sony is going to charge less for a streamed game than a physical one. You'll still drop $60 and have nothing to show for it.

Nintendo did it in japan with the snes bs thing, broadcast satellite i think is what it was called was cheap too
had a good remake of legend of Zelda with link to the past graphics and voice acting too
but Nintendo always gave a bang for your duck, but that's the difference from a 150 year old game company remaking things
