Is there any reason to prefer iso files?

Post by SloXreS »

Just wanted to ask if there is any reason to prefer ISO files over CSO`s.
When i compress my ISO`s to CSO`s it sometimes saves up to 50% of the file size. Is that comes at a price of something? like speed or graphics?
Thanks.

Some games will have stutter frame rates, like NFSCarbon and Pimp My Ride and also long load times when compressed to CSO. Some CSO compressed games also might not work properly and can lead to crash.
Although ISO files are larger and take much memory space, but the in-game loading will take short time.

ISO is the full game so it will be faster, more legit and have uncut scenes.
In CSO the loading time is slower, many scenes are cut out, so for example a movie scene of the game won't run since it was removed in the CSO.

Movies aren't cut out in CSOs, you have to do that manually.
CSO just compresses the data.

CSO just compresses it, that's it.
Oh I compress my own CSO and remove what I want to, so mostly I remove cutscenes and the firmware updates and other useless stuff. (Btw I came across a compressor before that removes all the video extension files, which was horrible since it removed some important scenes)

Another plus of ISO is some games simply won't run if altered at all. Even just removing the padding or update can break them.

There was a quite interesting bug a friend of mine discovered recently when he played an ISO of Madoka Magica on TN-V4 (Don't know if this was fixed by now).

It froze at a certain point, but when compressed to an CSO everything ran as it should.

I personally always use CSO if possible. But in games like Project Diva, where there is stuttering if compressed, I use ISO.

I think I know him :)

Yea that game was quite the heck. Did not work at M33, ME, LME, PRO, 660HEN or any TN version.

A simple CSO solved this, haha.

I've never had good luck with CSO. Yes it takes less memory card space, but they always seem to stutter and freeze, and or take forever to load. I've never ahd this problem with ISO so that is why for me. ...
