Hmm... a "REAL" ps2 emulator on the vita will not be possible... the vita simply has not the hardware for that task...

but lets ask the question different...

Is it really necessary to emulate a whole device?
Can't we create something like a "wrapper" or "interpreter" which rematches syscalls for the newer platform, and only emulates very ps2 game specific tasks like memory card read write?

I'm talking Nintendon-t here ( https://gbatemp.net/threads/nintendont.349258/ )
Please mind the wii U has no bc for gamecube games but with that hombrew installed it can launch and play gc games and triforce games, saving does work too.

That is just a suggestion here.

The reason Nintendont works is that the Wii and WiiU both have the GameCube hardware in its entirety, Both the Wii and WiiU are just upgrades of the GC hardware so all the needed components are actually there.

Yes this does mean Nintendo could enable 100% native GC compatibility via an update but for whatever reason they choose not to.

The Vita on the other hand does not have any PS2 hardware at all so no that method could never work.

Well it was just an idea anyway... so who knows what can happen.
The scene is young, the hacks are fresh... so fresh that the SOFT in software is actually the name of the game. XD

Love how over half of you think that you know everything about this when you don't even take into account that the ONLY PS2 emulator on PC isn't even done being developed... It's just like saying that a modern computer can't emulate the PSP because PPSSPP version 0.2 can't run games unless it's on a high end computer... Same thing with PCSX2... Let the developers finish their work and get the emulator fully working.... Then you can see for youself that it can be put on the Vita... (Only with a kernel exploit though, we need the FULL power of the Vita if we plan on emulating the PS2).

It's obviously possible to run PS2 games on the Vita, but nobody EVER seems to be working on PS2 emulators besides PCXS2 on the PC... And even that hasn't got many updates in recent years. If we want PS2 on the Vita, somebody has to make a fully functional PS2 emulator, or PCSX2 needs to be finished before we can really tell if it can run or not. A quad core 2GHz CPU and a quad core GPU should be able to handle the emulation.

But AGAIN, we will only know when PCSX2 is final stages of development, much like PPSSPP. Until such a time has come and gone, NONE of you should be whining that you can't fully emulate PS2 unless it's a high end PC, PCSX2 hasn't been optimized yet, so it's very inefficient in many games.

Hi ! I saw a little what Nintendont is about.
Do you think someone could use the same technique to build a kind of wrapper to play PSP and PS1 games ? The Vita has an in-built PSP emulator (even PSP hardware in it, no ?), so it would be the same concept.
Or maybe the PSM environment doesn't allow to do these kind of things ? Everybody is saying that the PSM environment is very restricted and closed.

What do you think ? PSP wrapper to use the PSP build-in emulator, feasible ?

as far as i know, that not true

wii u has hardware backward compatibility with the wii and the wii has hardware backward compatibility with the gc.
nintendont only works on wii mode, because theare are no homebrews yet for the wii u OS
it s not emulation!

just like ps vita-psp, and ps3 60g-ps2

the ps3 slim(cobra cfw) uses the software ps2 emulator and it sucks a lot. only a few games runs at full speed with no glitches or crashes.
this is the official sony emulator.
if they abandoned this "project" means that it would require a lot of time.

so, a working ps2 emu will never see the light

The official PS2 emulator for PS3 is not the Cobra ***. The official emulator is the one the handles PS2 Classics and it can run games full speed no problem, but has problems with a lot of games (bugs in the emulator): http://www.pshomebrew.net/wiki/PS2_Clas ... ility_List

it's possible but don't expect any decent framerate.
- PSVita 3G / 32GB
- PSVita Wifi / 64GB
- Wacom Cintiq 13HD
- AKG K701
