What do we need to Put Sound on PSX?

Post by wartaf »

i know a little about Programming on PSP Homebrews but i know that it is not enough to put sound on our PSX Vita Emu. i just wanna help to the best that i can :D

my question are:

1. i read on the forum that PSX Sound was using Media Engine of Vita, is it possible to use that Media Engine on our eCFW?
2. if we cannot use that Media, maybe we should use the ePSP's Sound to emulate the PSX which maybe is possible, if it is maybe i should start learning both PSP and PSX sounds.

so what you all think about it, specially those Devs. thanks :D

1. No, the Media ENgine isn't emulated, thus that is a no go.

2. Now that is "possible", but it is quite a challange. This was attempted before, and got quite far. Till some major *** happened, someone stole the work. Long story short, the dev left the scene. So for now we have to wait, and hope, that another dev of such high caliber can pick up the mantel. Unfortunately it is quite hard, and would take a great one to pull it off any time soon.

:(, no, he did not. I believe he was left quite jaded with the scene, which I do fully understand.

And sadly, I don't remember his name either. I didn't get a vita till last Christmas.

It's Coldbird.
I believe he mentioned implementing the missing syscalls, but I'm not completely certain.

i believe CB was taking a Audio driver use in PSX emulators
and making it a PRX file and load audio as a plugin but this would
mean reversing this plugin spuPeopsDSound.dll into a PRX file, if
CB did something extra I am not sure if you really want to learn
about PSX audio go to EMUFORUMS I know for a fact the developers
that work on the PSX audio plugins are there.

Well, not even Coldbird started from scratch. He was porting an opensource lib, I guess it was for a PSX emu. Using an opensource lib will be MUCH eaiser then actually starting from scratch. So if you actually intend on a giving it a go, and don't want to just use it as a learning experence, I would do the same.

CB was writing the audio driver. The thing was, POPS wouldn't work on the PSP emulator because it expected the sound driver to return certain values. He managed to get it working by creating a dummy driver which always returns the value.

Basically, they will be writing an entire driver for the psp emulator.
