TN-X Clarifications

Post by Omnigamer » Sat Mar 19, 2016 6:44 am

After finding out that the newer PS1 Loader from flow is incompatible with PSTV, I'm taking a step back to make sure a solution exists that is satisfactory for what I'm trying to do. That basically leaves TN-X, but I don't have a 3.20 PSTV to work with. So before I go all out and start hunting for a 3.20 system, I want to clarify a few things about what TN-X can or cannot do.

Objective: I want to be able to run a modified PS1 game through the PSTV's natural PS1 loader, or at least get as close to it as possible. The base game is available on PSN, and I do own it.

1. Does TN-X operate through the PSTV's innate PS1 loader or does it use some secondary emulation functions?
2. Is the game performance reduced or different from how it would be as a legitimate PS1 classic? This is important; even minor performance differences will make it unsuitable for my purposes.
3. Do you still have access to settings such as "Fast Disc Speed" or otherwise for a game played through TN-X?
4. Can you do anything else with TN-X beyond what you could do with a natural game? Extra settings, bonus features, etc.
5. Are there any limitations with running TN-X on a PSTV as opposed to a Vita?

Thanks for any insight you can provide.

1. It runs via the native PSOne emulater of the vita (vs TN-V which runs PSOne emu inside the ePSP)

2. It should run with the same speed as a classic would run (it uses the same emulator)

3. You have access to the exact same settings a PSOne classic game has on the vita (press&hold PS button). This includes Fast Disc Speed.

4. TN-X has a memory snapshot feature that allows you to save/load any game state. This is kinda slow and sometimes it does not work but it does the job. Not sure if there is anything else TN-X offers.

5. Once Installed it works the same on the PSTV as on the Vita.

Thank you for the help. Looks like I need to hunt down a 3.20 PSTV.

That said, are there any good ways to tell what version the firmware might be without opening it up and plugging it in? I've also heard that certain bundles are almost exclusively 3.20 units; does anybody happen to know more about this?

Thanks!

I was in the same position a month ago. There is no real way to tell, apart from choosing a bundle that might come with 3.20.

I went ahead and bought the PSTV + Lego Movie Game bundle from Amazon, and it came with 3.20 :)
Other option would be to go to a game shop that sells used devices, and just plug it in and check in the store.

Perhaps I will release the method for PS TV in summer.

I'll be looking forward to that then, unfortunately I was hoping to be able to run the modified game for an event in May. Thank you for the hard work!
