PS 1 Classics + Vita

PS 1 Classics + Vita

Postby eric264 » Thu Apr 12, 2012 3:33 am

Sony has said they're going to release PS1 classics to Vita at some point "soon". Everyone I know with a Vita is dying for that to happen.
I was thinking... What if the reason it's not being released is because Sony is concerned with security vulnerabilities similar to some PSP games with VHBL? Is that a plausible concern? I would hate to think the Vita Homebrew community could be holding back this great release.

It has nothing to do with the Homebrew Community, it's just Sony. They hold back many features of the Vita like:

- Remoteplay
- HTML 5 or even Flash
- Games like Gravity Rush (*still-waiting*)

...and so on.

It just was an marketing strategy to increase the sales from the start. They just said that they will release it ''soon''.... If i ask my crush to go out on a date with me and she answered ''soon''...it could take some month before it happens ;D <= just an example.

It comes when it comes. Be patient ;)

Actually, I think the more likely reason is simply they don't have the PS1 emulator for the Vita ready yet. Emulating a console via an emulated console (that is, emulating the PS1 via PSP emulation) would be a nightmare to debug, not to mention be very inefficient. I imagine most of their "emulation team" is/was spending most of it's time ensuring the PSP emulator is/was as close to perfect as possible before they jumped into the PS1 emu. Even if just an enhanced port of the PSP/PS3 emu to the Vita they'd still have to spend time bug fixing and game testing (the PS1 classic library they have is pretty extensive and would likely take months of play testing for that alone)

It's very unlikely they'd be willing to put off releasing the Vita itself for months just to make sure a lesser used feature would be perfect for launch.

Emulation in a emulated machine is nothing new or special. it just requires a decent highlevel emulation on the 1st emulated device, which I think did Sony pretty good. (Okay assuming that they have double cpu power on psv even on one core than on psp, that's no miracle) They just had to program a communication interface which translates all instructions to psvs language [kermit]. For ps1 emulation they just have to implement the necessary libraries and in worst case (because its highlevel emulation) some hacks to get it run properly.
What Im saying is, that Sony would have done ps one support already if they wanted to. Something is holding them back, maybe because its not profitable enough for them.

Sry, no edit button for me... m0skit0 didn't answer
EDIT: They didn't have to reinvent the wheel again. Everything is ready and packed in PSPs Firmware.

I dont think they would use the PS1 Emulator from the PSP..
I think they would make one for the Vita itself so you can install games and run from the main screen.
1. PS Vita Wifi 2.01 fw - Pro-V/Ark
1. PS Vita 3G 2.02 fw - Pro/CEF

That's what I think too! It would be weird for them to make an emulator running inside an emulator. Not that it's impossible, but it would probably be harder and performances would be less significant, right? So probably not the best choice to make.

I've heard they are actually going to make a SPECIFIC APP for PS1 emulation :| . This might be just a rumor but it does sound lecit : http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/620272-/62365626

I don't think so. If you look cloeser on installed PS1 Games on PSP, its just an encrypted eboot file. You could run it as a link (like PSP Games) through kermit.

I wouldn't trust a guy who "asked a playstation rep about ps1 games today" from gamefaqs.

That doesn't necessarly mean that PS1 games will work the same way in the PSV ... If it was that easy , why sony didn't enamble it from the start ? :D

The only way to confirm w/e you are right would be asking Davee to run a PS1 game on the PSV with his PSP HEN or ask Sony :3
