Possible idea for homebrew on the vita.

Post by Youkosnake » Sun Mar 04, 2012 11:50 pm

I'm sure its been tried or worked on, but I thought I would throw it out there just in case. Maybe someone could use a purchased game(downloaded from psn and backed up via CMA), then a downloaded back up and sort out the differences in hex to get the downloaded one to work on the vita. Then that one could be used to build homebrew after we know what lines are needed in the PSN versions. I'm going to try and work on this too, I'm downloading software I need at the moment. Just wanted to toss some ideas out.

Reasons I think this may work:
PSN downloaded games must have some verification lines in there to identify the person who purchased the software, if these lines can be added, then the game should run.

Reasons it may not:
I don't know the filesystem that Vita uses for PSP games.

FAT32.
I don't think it will work, but you're free to give it a try. Also, no piracy talk please.
Anyway, assuming you have the difference between the two files, how are you going to use it?

Sorry, I wasn't getting at piracy. Its not piracy if its a copy of a game you own. and you should be able to do it with a hex editor eh? Just change lines to match the PSN copy. I'm still in the download process now, so it may be a while.

Wololo said in another thread here that CMA adds a new layer of encryption/signing, so the format is completely different. In this case PSP -> PSV games won't work.

Encryption/signin 101: the first step is obfuscation/hash. There is no way you can understand the differences between two signed packages (or one signed and one unsigned) by simply looking at the hex differences. At best, the differences in hex might give you a hint on what encryption/signing process is being used, but that's if you have a very broad and deep knowledge of encryption/signing algorithms in the first place.
If you need US PSN Codes, this technique is what I recommend.
