Original lamecraft and multicraft are pretty much a map viewer/map editor. iirc, lamecraft had day/night cycles as well; multicraft goes on about making the same code available on multiple platforms (PSP, PSV, Android, PC, PS3).
Several mods added more blocks to it.
As far as redstone mod goes, it added redstone in the first revisions, and crafting later on. The problem with this was that it totally broke compatibility with 1k PSPs/Vitas. The last (unreleased at all afaik) version also had braindead mobs.
The other one you may want to check out is s4inexcraft. [thread] Can't tell you the exact features of this one, but you can download it and check for yourself. Not sure about compatibility either. s4inex never made any trouble, so I don't know much about it. (Shows how much I'm interested in lamecraft.)
None of the mods as far as I know add mod/plugin support.
As far as making a minecraft clone goes, keep in mind that if you mod lamecraft/multicraft, you need to publish your source code as well since they're both GPL'd. Apart from that, WIP threads aren't encouraged unless you have any significant progress to show (eg. an alpha/beta/w/e download).
Wow thank you... I'll look into s4inexCraft.. I really just wanted something with wire repeaters and sticky piston so I could make my secret base entrance. Guess I'll just have to wait for pocket edition of minecraft to update in 30 years. Thanks for the info
