Understocked and overpriced

Post by Gizmosnack » Tue May 26, 2015 12:37 am

So I updated from 3.18. Partly in hope of good emus/homebrew from the PSM hack but also because I missed PSN and using the Vita as it was intended. I immediately bought some games from PSN and I've gotta say it's crazy how little has changed since I last used it. Games that should be dirt cheap (old Vita titles but more importantly, PSP and PS1 games) are still outrageously overpriced. Maybe the deals seem sweeter if you own a ps3 or 4 but I don't. New games seem few and far between. Even buying pre-owned games is expensive because of the relatively limited userbase and production runs. The best handheld console of this generation is being ignored by Sony. Piracy won't kill the Vita. Sony already did a bang on job with that. Emulation and homebrew may save it. Let's hope so.

Edit: Sorry it may sound like I'm Sony bashing. I'm not. I'm just disappointed. On the plus side, digital flash sales are still good and is it just me or has PSN done away with the really annoying minimum wallet funds? I bought 2 games, each under the minimum UK £5 and they seem to have gone through. Can anyone recommend any upcoming Vita games. The only one I am waiting for is Trails In The Sky 2nd Chapter and well... that's technically a PSP game.

Since you're fine with text-heavy game, visual novel might interest you. I would recommend Steins;Gate coming out on 5th June. It should be VN to the core that you might consider it an e-book. xD

In case you would like to play the game (not just read), take a look at Tokyo Twilight Ghost Hunters. You will have mini / board games to play. Actually I just started playing it. So, I can not say much about the story. The game is not something you would call groundbreaking, but it does have a story-telling mechanic that I haven't seen before though.

Nevertheless, my Vita is not just a VN machine. I still have some games in the line e.g. Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines (RPG) or Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F 2nd (Rhythm). ;)

Thankyou for that recommendation. I'm not really into visual novels but I just found Trails (although plot heavy) to be a great game from a tired genre. There were so many good PSP games even after it was hacked to heck. Why are developers not taking the risk with Vita? Sony would be smart to port Android to the Vita. Screw PSM (except for the possible hack). Wanna compete with mobile devices, join the club with an awesome device with full controls and nicer than Nvidia Shield. Xperia Play proves they know this would be wise.
