Minecraft, you sultry minx!

Post by KeithShap » Sat Mar 28, 2015 8:33 am

While I do enjoy playing minecraft, and enjoy it on many different platforms. I was wondering who here plays the ps vita version, and could tell me if it is worth the money to have a portable official version of the game? I have a strong love for this game as I do for my millions of legos laying in plastic containers throughout the house. Yet, I do not wish to pay the same amount of money for an inferior product that I will not enjoy as much as I do on the other consoles/pc.

If I remember right, Minecraft is about 20$ on PSN and that gets you MC on PS Vita and PS3 with a 5$ upgradable to PS4.

Was worth it because I sometimes play on PS3, and if you already own it on PS3, you don't have to re-buy it for PSV.

It runs really well too, better than what I can say for my computer running it lol.

Compared to say a mid ranged computer, how is the vita version?

i can't really copmpare to the PC version, since i never really played that yet, but obviously there is limitations to the Vita version. One thing i don't like is, that you can't change the controll scheme:

L= place block/ use
R= mine block
square= crafting menu
triangle= inventory
circle= drop item
cross= jump
d-pad down= duck
d-pad up= change camera

This isn't terrible, but i wish you could use the face buttons for mining and placing blocks, since i find it uncomfortable to press the shoulder buttons for a long time.

Another factor is drawing distance. I would assume that it is much better on the PC.
Here is a screenshot that shows the max drawing distance of the Vita version

In the end, i have to say i have a lot of fun with this game on my Vita and personally i don't regret the purchase.
Let me know if there is anything specific you want to know.

hmmm, not bad for a handheld. Not only that, but you say I get the ps3 for free and the ps4(if I ever get one) for just another 4 dollars... I'd say it's worth a buy. I very much appreciate your input.

Depending on how much stuff is in your map...
Minecraft PS Vita normally: 30 FPS
Frequent drops to about 17-20 FPS, I used to play on a *** desktop so I can almost get a rough estimate of the actual frame-rate, if not on point then close enough. The PS Vita does drop to crappy frame-rates but the game is still very playable and still fun.
PS Vita: 3.60 - d-fend
PSP: 6.60 Pro B-10 - d-fend
PS3 - gamr12 (And d-fend)
