FTP and HBL question

Post by Zecoxao » Fri Oct 01, 2010 8:30 pm

I've noticed these days, when the ps3 scene started to bloom for real, that there was a homebrew that allowed me to see the inside contents of my console, the PS3 FTP server. I tried it, and I really liked the possibilties in it.

My question is:

What would happen if i used a homebrew, like Filer, with FTP capabilities? A friend of mine said that we would have access to transfer the files, since downloading them through FTP would be considered, as we like to call "user access" on the PSP, and "kernel access" on whatever PC we would use. We have HBL with (some) networking capabilities, haven't we not? Could we connect somehow using FTP and transfer the OFW fully?

im assuming you are suggesting using this ftp program to downgrade to a lower version of ofw. the bottom line is the hbl cannot write to the flash0 memory of the psp, no matter how you transfer the files to the psp.

I'm not saying it can, i'm just asking if using FTP in some device with read-only features can still download the files inside it (Filer allows us to see them, at the very least). At least that's what some friend told me. I'm not trying to induce nobody in error. I just wanna know if this is true or false.

ultimakillz' answer is the best you can possibly get.
You and your friend are making a confusion between the rights granted by the homebrew PSPFiler (which wants to give you all the rights, of course), and the actual rights granted by the console Kernel.
If you need US PSN Codes, this technique is what I recommend.

Ok thanks for the clarification, at least someone who has some idea about this doesn't ask this question again.
