The PSP is effectively dead. This is great though, from my limited testing this seems to be the best Gameboy and Gameboy Color emulator on the PSP in terms of accuracy and (possibly)performance. Masterboy/Emumaster has a number of graphical problems with games like Metal Gear Solid Ghost Babel and Looney Toons Collector etc etc, they all seem to be absent here. The speech in games such as Warlocked has also never worked on the PSP but they finally do on this. Accuracy ftw.

Although, don't change the CPU clock speed with the CFW select menu when you're using the emulator as it can get stuck. GBA core seems to crash but I only tried it once. I guess we just have a solid GB emulator for now, PC Engine seems to work alright as well.

The GameBoy/GameBoy Color emulator you are referring to in the RetroArch PSP release is known as Gambatte, which is a cycle-accurate and pixel accurate GB/GBC emulator with around 99.8% accuracy, which is better than byuu's GameBoy Color implementation of a GameBoy Color core in his multi-system emulator Higan. Higan is known for being the only emulator that can emulate the SNES on a cycle and pixel accurate level. The TempGBA core is more than likely going to be better than the gpSP emulators out there. Most of these cores may very likely be superior to some of the PSP only cores out there, however I have not tested it out much. Also, if you are having trouble with the TempGBA core, I think it needs the GBA BIOS.

What systems does this build emulate?

All I can find is the following

PSP version

The PSP version has been usable for a long time but I think we should finally just release it as part of the new stable releases. Of course things are not going to be perfect but I hope just us going the extra mile and releasing this for a pretty much dead platform will mean something in and of itself to the people who use this platform.

PSP is a pretty performance-hamstrung system so it requires plenty of edits and novel workarounds to make cores work fast enough on it. Right now we have cores like Gambatte working fullspeed and the PC Engine port also should be pretty impressive considering this is based on Mednafen PC Engine Fast, which should be far more compatible and accurate than something like Hugo.

A sincere call to arms here for more PSP developers who want to be part of the effort: we have every intention of making as many ports run well on the PSP but the crucial thing here is that all of this costs work. If you are a capable PSP dev and you’d like to help out please let us know.
