Issue with Snes9XTYL emu

Post by DaNiC » Mon Mar 30, 2015 9:29 am

Hey there, seeing how this site seems to be the place to go to concerning anything PSP i thought i'd ask on these forums. :)

So i recently acquired a PSP-3004 with firmware version 6.35 and the 635 HEN by Vflame and coldbird.
Now i am able to run the emulator after enabling homebrews but whenever i want to run a rom (or even the readme.txt) it begins loading the settings and then afterward freezes.. :? I can't exit the emulator and i must shut down the PSP manually.

I was wondering if perhaps there are any compatibility issues with the setup i have or something.
Once i saw it froze i was worried if maybe i had accidently bricked the PSP..
The prometheus ISO launcher works fine BTW.

Since i am eager to mess around with my PSP a bit (downloading/writing homebrews and such) i was wondering if anyone here could tell me what might possibly brick my PSP so i won't go venturing into dangerous waters.

Thanks.

Which version of SNES9XTYL are you using? I just tossed the 091011-3 update on my 6.20 LME and tried three games, the readme.txt was the only one to cause me to crash.

After a google run, seems everyone that's tried to run it under 6.35 has issues and usually told to go down to 6.20, which is the reason it works for me.

I downgraded my 3001 from 6.35 PRO to 6.20 LME permanent patch. With that said, I don't know if the 3004 can support a downgrade to 6.20, as some models you won't be able to go that low.

They're pretty rock solid as it stands now, has had couple of years to buff out the major problems that use to happen.

Since it's a 3000 model, your main fear is kernal mode homebrew messing around in flash0:/ and you cannot use a pandora battery to fix it because it won't work with 3000 models.

Pretty much if you want to be safe, stay away from theme flashers unless you're 110% it's compatible with your system and firmware. Since theme flashers are mostly the main way people brick their systems.

If you do want to theme, I would suggest CXMB.

Thanks for the advice up til now :)

I was wondering if you might have any guideline as to what homebrews might need to access kernel mode functions? (Emulators for example?)

Anything that updates firmware or patch firmware would go for kernal access. Emulators are okay.

Basically stuff like editing bootlogos/installing service packs on Windows could possibly stop Windows from working, pretty much same concept for the PSP.

For snes9xtly make sure you use the latest version. I think you got emulator running so make sure rom is fine and if it´s a compressed archive look if (example zip) it supported.
I doubt text files are supported on most emulators
You can alternative try another emulator if your rom doesn´t work easyly with snes9xxxa.

Emulators don´t full brick a device ;) (maybe if perma patch yours).

Just don´t mess with flash0. You can look into yor hen menu and disable touch flash0 to prefent any brick.
If you are not sure if a homebrew writtes to flash do a websearch first.
The prometheus ISO launcher works fine BTW.
It build in all cfw since a long time
I don't know if the 3004 can support a downgrade to 6.20, as some models you won't be able to go that low.
It works viewtopic.php?f=20&t=11958 but better never go deeper as 6.20

Alright, I think I have a bit better understanding of what to lookout for when fooling around with homebrew.
Thanks for the tips.
