SNES9xTY thinks a second controller is connected?

I have been playing Super Double Dragon on the SNES Emu SNES9xTY. Whenever you die you have to press start to activate a credit. This causes issues. It seems that whenever you press start it also activates the start for the second controller. Is there a way to disable the second controller?

Cheat some credits for yourself beforehand.
