Ubuntu internet problem.
Ubuntu internet problem.
When I click on internet icon on Ubuntu, it says firmware missing there. I understood that sometihing is wrong with drivers. By looking at tutorial, I runned something in terminal and looked on devices that Ubunutu recognizes. I saw my adapter. By mention, it is Realtek RTL8168C(P)/8111C(P). So, what is the problem do you think?

Re: Ubuntu internet problem.
i had a similar problem with my wireless card and wireless connectivity, although i assume your talking about a wired connection. did the os ever prompt you with a message about installing an external driver? are you dual booting between ubuntu and windows? if so, which version?
looking into it without the information i asked, this is what i could find:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... bug/208012
which is also discussed here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php? ... 168&page=2
i realize this is for an older version of ubuntu, but maybe those steps will allow you to solve your problem

Re: Ubuntu internet problem.
Dual-booting has nothing to do with the problem.
What's strange is that he managed to download stuff from Ubuntu on other threads, so that means he had connection before and suddenly lost it?

Re: Ubuntu internet problem.
the reason i asked was because of something i read in the bug report:m0skit0 wrote:Dual-booting has nothing to do with the problem.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... bug/208012Previous fixes included wake on LAN if dual booting with Windows XP, or cold booting the PC.
Re: Ubuntu internet problem.
For what I read, that still does not prove the problem is with dual booting as the fix has nothing to do with booting, but rather network driver configuration.

Re: Ubuntu internet problem.
i had the same problem for some time. just couldn't connect to the internet, whether wired or wireless. I download the wireless atheros drivers and that worked. Though I think that has nothing with your problem...
And I suppose the drivers vary for different cards.

I posted all messages from Windows. I can't connect from Ubuntu.m0skit0 wrote:Dual-booting has nothing to do with the problem.

Re: Ubuntu internet problem.
like i said before, you may want to try the steps at the bottom of this post:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... bug/208012
maybe that will help with your problem, which i now agree with m0skit0 that is a network config issue.

Re: Ubuntu internet problem.
I tried to do that. But terminal have problems I think. After first sudo command, it says type your password. When I try to type, symbols doesn't appear at all !!ultimakillz wrote:like i said before, you may want to try the steps at the bottom of this post:
