You might be surprised to find out that some applications run faster on Wine than on Windows (even with Linux being over a virtual machine over Windows XP). Sometimes Wine is even faster than native Linux apps. It's actually quite shocking. As said on some forum out there:

And definitely Wine does not run every Windows program, that's a fact.

The whole PSPSDK was developed on Linux, and same goes for PS3 or PS2. Most hackers do not use Windows, with many using Linux

Same goes for supercomputers, with Linux hitting 90%. Just ask (or read!) yourself why ;)

i agree with m0skit0 on his first post. do the safe install first, but be careful of updates on that. i ran the updates and it scr..ed up the grub system which handles the dual booting, and it made it to where i couldn't run anything. all i could do was a fresh install of ubuntu from scratch, which deleted my vista recovery files. now i'm stuck with 10.04 for good until i can get a vista or 7 DVD

Sorry HeroKing, but if you scr..ed your Windows installation it was certainly not Ubuntu or GRUB's fault, but yours. I've had many problems with updating Ubuntu and GRUB (that's why I don't use Ubuntu anymore, but other Linuxes) and it never scr..ed my Windows installation except when I made a mistake. You probably erased your Windows boot sector. You can easily recover your Windows if you restore that boot sector.
