need help fixing dell inspirion 1100

Post by thekornerkids » Sun Nov 03, 2013 2:02 am

so i have an old laptop, its a dell inspirion 1100 that i would like to fix and use to flash ecu's with
my friend gave it to me because it had a graphics problem, windows xp showed up but it had a big black border all the way around the screen.
i thought a fresh install of windows would fix this but now i can't reinstall the xp operating system.

i thought to boot up under ubuntu, to find that it says my laptops hard disk has 39 bad sectors.
which i think is resulting in the below error code when installing windows xp.

STOP: c0000221 Unknown Hard Error
\SystemRoot\System32\ntdll.dll

so if any one can help with reinstalling windows xp and finding the black border problem around the screen, much appreciated

Hi! What i would first try is to format the harddrive, and once the harddrive is empty, install the OS. This should fix your problem if the bad sectors are responsible for this.

I've tried reformatting with the windows install disc but it won't reformat the drive
Ends up getting the same error half way through
