[PLEASE LOCK] Is my custom setup good for casual gaming?

Post by JeoWay » Sat Jul 27, 2013 6:59 am

EDIT: Please Lock! No longer my setup! I have a new one ;)

Before I get into things, my custom made setup I plan to order is inside the spoiler below the short paragraphs :)

Hello everyone! I would like your opinion as to what you think of this custom build I am putting together for a casual gaming laptop. My friend and I have been talking about his setup and what I can do to get a great setup to run most games on Ultra Settings (With Anti-Aliasing down some). He has a special edition Radeon HD 7770 Thermal Edition and an Intel Processor (Not exactly sure of which revision). Anyhow, he can run games like Crysis 3 on Ultra Settings with most other settings on fairly high (such as anti-aliasing). He also has 8GB of DDR3 memory. He uses Windows 8 64-bit version which also he has tweaked and only uses 3% of his RAM. Anyhow, if I happen to get this, I would love to play Minecraft with everyone :)

My *current* build I am customizing

NOTE: I am not 100% finished. This is most likely going to finish, but I plan on upgrading the RAM to 16GB and also upgrade to 120GB in Solid State Drives and may keep adding up to 1TB as it comes along nicely :) (I may also decide to add a second hard drive for up to 1.75TB :D

Total Price so far (For an MSI Gaming Laptop): $1,198.00
Also, I am trying to keep it at less than $1,200 (Until I upgrade in the future)
I also plan to over clock it a bit and modify windows to use less RAM (Like my friend did)

It's great but I must suggest that you have a look at any asus alienware or even the inspiron 17r special edition if you can!

I have the 15r special edition and it's fantastic it can run crisis 3 on the second highest setting at 45fps and above depending on my temperatures..

The 17r has a better CPU and gpu compared to mine so it will play crisis on ultra like it is butter
Hope I helped...

Or if u are very much into ur current config it's great as well except amd CPUs in laptops tend to run a little hotter

Before anyone calls me an intel fanboy or anything I must admit that I do have a hp g6 with amd a10 as well which runs hotter than my Inspiron but I love the dual graphics option in amd CPU and gpu configs only the temperatures which I have experienced are higher maybe some other people may have also had a better experience with amd laptops

If you can, get no OS. That adds a bit too much to the price, and Win8 Sucks. Go with Win7 if you can/want.

Other then that, you suck. Dang, that is to be an awesome comp.

I prefer an Intel also, but I can also try getting another later on if I am able too :)

That is what i'm trying to find
But I think it comes pre-installed with it which adds more value to the default price after modified :|

I plan on installing Windows 8.1 anyhow (its the new gaming OS that has a preview right now)

Other then that, you suck. Dang, that is to be an awesome comp.
