If you want more of a casual gaming experience, go for the PS4. Consoles have always been incredibly easy to pick up and put down since the layout on the controllers is so easy to use and remember.

Personally, I'd get a PC. They have better specifications than consoles, and can be acquired for a lower price. They also are constantly evolving, so while a console may come out with decent hardware, it soon becomes outdated in comparison to a PC. Also, keyboard and mouse gaming experience is much nicer, but DOES take a little while to get used to. Also, you can do more on a PC such as surf the web (I know consoles can too, but it's gimped in comparison to a PC), play games that wouldn't be found on a PS4, or emulate with ease instead of having to bypass ridiculous amounts of security measures.

And since the "much nicer" part is all relative, there are also lots of controlers for PC too. I almost exclusivly use PC, but I much prefer controllers to mouse/keyboard. Also you can use most console controllers on pc, thankfully as I prefer the xbox 360 to any other. Either direct for PS3 wired / Xbox wired, with a bluetooth adaptor for PS3 / Wii wireless, a $10 adaptor for 360 wireless, and any of a number of cheapish adaptor's for any other system ranging from Genisis to N64.

Plus, you can even control your PC with a controller, if you so chose, ala a few programs with my favorite being joy2key. I mainly use this to control non controller games with a controller. Game in point: Minecraft. I don't play it often, but when I do I prefer to sit on my couch. A couch is not exactly a good keyboard/mouse experience.

Aye, this is very true. I do quite enjoy using my Wiimote to control my PC from a distance (great when you want to switch movies from the sofa). The thing about controllers is that if you wish to play any game with other players (especially FPS games) you really wouldn't want to use one as it would majorly handicap you in comparison to others so it's probably better to keep them for retro gaming, or possibly even games like minecraft as the above user posted though I haven't much first hand experience on this subject.

To be quite blunt about it; Computers can do everything a console can and you're not limited to input methods, or what kind of games you want to play. You could even fully control the system with a console gamepad if you were that way inclined. One of the only downsides that I can think of while using a computer is that you may have to wait a little longer for the game to be released. It used to be that you had to wait around a month or more, but these days many of the companies seem to release the PC counterpart at the same time as the console, so this isn't as relevant anymore but something to keep in mind.

I don't do multiplayer, so I use controllers for just about everything I can. From Fallout 3 to Mass effect. :)

Also, not all cool games are released to PC. That is something to be aware of. The last Halo game for PC was Halo 2. I so wish to have ODST, but alas, tiss not the case.

Now, I would say that a PC is way better as a platform for both of them.
FPS: mouse is way more accurate than an analog, control-wise PC is better at it.
Open World Survival games: PC has more resources and can handle it better.
Also, you can use a PC for pretty much anything; for a console if not hacked, you're tied to just games.

Now, this doesn't mean I recommend getting a PC. In my opinion, it would be best if you look into what games exactly you want to play, and buy whatever these games are going to support.
