Do I have a virus or something?

Post by itsme98 » Mon Apr 01, 2013 11:16 am

Good day!
So, I bought an external hard drive so I transferred some of my files to it then disconnected it. After sometime, I inserted it back to transfer more, but then I saw this "$RECYCLE.BIN" and "RECYCLER" folder in it. I tried to delete it but it won't disappear and also the folders inside turned into shortcuts. I tried the "attrib" thing with command prompt and the folders appeared again, so I disconnected it. But then when I connected it back, it happened again! This also happens with my flash drives and other removable drives and I do the same procedure. Also when I connect my other drives into my sister's laptop, this doesn't happen.

Someone please help! This has been happening for quite a while. Quick replies would be appreciated.

Thanks! :D

Why do I think it's some folders Windows came up with for when it deletes your stuff? Can't tell you for sure.
Well, I have a $Recycle.Bin folder on the root of my Windows partition too, I believe it should be safe to assume it's Windows making those.

It is Windows, in fact, almost any OS does this no matter what.
