Post by KR4T05 » Sun Feb 06, 2011 4:16 am

Hi,
I'm experiencing a weird problem with bot mine, and my dad's laptops. My dad has an emachines e525, and i have a Dell inspiron 5100. the problem is that in windows vista my computer can use its wireless card, but in ubuntu, and in windows xp i cant connect to my router. On my dad's, he can connect on ubuntu, but not on xp or vista, does anyone know of any solutions, or what i can do?

well, for the ubuntu not connecting issue, have you tried connecting it through ethernet and downloading the proprietary drivers? that's step 1 in getting it to work. if you're unsure on how, go to System -> Administration -> Hardware Drivers. if you're connected on a land line, you should be able to download the needed drivers and enable them to work.

as for running it under any Windows OS, you should look online for a copy of the driver that's been designed for that OS, and download/extract it to C:\Windows\System32 i believe. if not there, then i think it should come w/a readme file of where to put it. i would suggest restarting the computer after installing the driver if it doesn't work right off the bat.
