can custom resolution damage my monitor?

Post by musashiro » Tue Oct 09, 2012 12:58 am

hey there!!

just wanna ask, I am an I.T student and after googling a lot, i am still hesitant to use custom resolution...

i have a syncmaster sa300 samsung monitor... since it's 20", the native resolution is 1600x900

my problem with the native resolution is that some applications doesn't fit on screen.. so i played with my nvidia settings and the custom resolution i found nice is 1920x1080... i did not change the refresh rate...

my question now, is it safe to use custom resolutions?? will it damage my monitor??

thanks a lot... :)

If a rsolution is not compatible with your monitor, it will simply not show up at all. Being that it works I say it is fine.

I've got a 22" display which only supports 1680*1050.. since the last update of my nvidia driver it displays also 1920*1080. I even used it with two other monitors (I used nvidia surround) but it looks awful and I'm not sure if the display could be damaged. Maybe they just used a microchip which supports up to this resolution and he's only limited by the display itself but nvidia controllpannel doesn't recognize it right. If you really need the higher resolution then I would use it like this cause otherwise you would have to buy a new display anyways^^
