Dual screen programming

Post by m0skit0 » Wed Aug 29, 2012 12:33 pm

I've been using a dual screen for programming in my new job for several weeks now, and... I can't wait any longer to show you! The image is huge, so I don't include it here because there's no resizing BBCode yet ;)

EDIT: YFrog gave errors while trying to access the image. I scaled it badly so the resolution now is awful, but still understandable. To see the full image, click on it.

Nice, i wish for double monitors at my work right now, i had a pair on my last job and it increased my productivity a lot, the ability to have eclipse in a screen + VM/documentation/code in another is priceless.

BTW, it never crossed my mind to move the debug windows to the other screen, now i want another monitor to do that  .

note: what is the name of that gnome3 theme?

note 2: i can see the eclipse process name in the ps listing (alongside your username) covered with the debug windows, why i can recognize that? /uselesstalents

I've been using it a lot lately! I use it basically in my school's Computer lab and keep After Effects running is one screen while the tutorials/other important stuff on the other! It helps me a lot and saves my time too! :)

EDIT : BTW It doesn't come under Smartphones category!

Definitely. I didn't see it as something that will improve anything and now I can see why it's priceless ;)

I just figured it out last week. It never crossed my mind to detach the Eclipse inner windows ever. What's awesome even more about Eclipse is that it remembers this setup. And not only that, but you can have different setups for each view. That's some awesomeness. This IMHO makes the best IDE out there right now.

I'll check it out tomorrow and tell you... if I can find where it says so xD

awesome! i was using my laptop along with an external monitor for a while, but i finally broke down and bought another monitor about a month ago. it's sooooo nice having my code in one monitor and a web browser and my application server console in the other, no more minimizing windows for me!

Cool. I might even attach an old monitor to my computer now. :P

Somewhat off-topic: Eclipse is so painful... at least on Windows :x

Eclipse works the same on Linux than on Windows... And can you please explain why it's so painful? I would say it actually relieves me from pain

In comparison to C# development in Visual Studio (yes, I know Java and C# are different from each other), Eclipse is buggy and doesn't perform too well on my computer.
Also, I don't really understand the versioning system. I was really confused whether to download "Eclipse Classic" or "Eclipse IDE for Java Developers".
