Looking for statistics about usage of Linux distribution

Post by asgard20032 » Thu Jul 12, 2012 3:55 am

Currently, im trying to get some statistics on the usage of Linux distribution, how many people use Linux, some information like percentage of user that use openSUSE, Debian, Ubuntu(including Kubuntu, Xubuntu...), Fedora and other major distribution.

The stats for number of people using Linux are because some of people I know argument that no one use Linux. The best I could find Is that: http://www.adiwebs.com/how-many-people-use-linux/

For the statistics about usage of major distribution, its more to know about popularity. Yeah, I know that Ubuntu is more popular than other, but by how many percent...

Actually, I only found out DistroWatcher, but Im trying to get information from more than one sourc... Not everyone go on DistroWatcher to up their distribution,

http://distrowatch.com/dwres.php?resource=popularity

But it give a general idea, but if anyone got more, it would be appreciated.

I'm not familiar with a site that will give you exact statistics but I can tell you that who ever is arguing with you and saying that no one uses Linux is an idiot... There are quite a few people on this site alone that use ONLY GNU/Linux and quite a few others that dual boot Linux and another OS.

It sounds to me like the people that are arguing against you have little to no knowledge of computer history. You shouldn't waste your time speaking to them. :|

I'm noticing that a lot of games now are available on Linux. 8-) (Check out humblebundle.com, quite a few of the Indie games they have released in the last few bundles are available on Linux. It's a nice trend)

What's my title?

Dunno about other sites but you could try Google Insights and enter some Linux distro names to see the trends between them.

A few? all of the bundle games (except the android ones) run on Linux, i have almost 50 games and counting thanks to the Humble Bundle :D

offtopic: what titles? :?:

I've only been a part of the last 6 or so bundles, I wasn't aware that ALL of them were Linux compatible. That's awesome.

Off topic : The titles for "Distract-o-Matic".
