How to put a GNU&Linux and a BSD installer on a USB key

Post by asgard20032 » Mon Jul 02, 2012 2:43 am

Now that I finally got a USB key large enough to a distribution on it, I need to know how to put the installer on it. I heard of some program that can put live distribution on USB key, but I never download live version of distribution, because I normally take the version with more package, but not live, because of my internet speed. But I saw no statement on those Live USB burner that it can also put a installer with either a Ncurse interface or a command line installation(I know they can put the installer on the Usb Key, but will it boot correctly? After all, its made for Live distribution). I also want to be able to put some *BSD on my USB key. Im so bored of wasting DVD.

I need a solution to do it from windows, and from GNU&Linux and *BSD

Also, I want the program to be used to be either BSD license or GPL or LGPL, or already included with windows. I don't want to download some garbage that will have spy-ware

I've used imagewriter a couple of times to write a Linux LiveCD on a memory stick, here's the wiki on it. It also has some instructions how to use dd to create it.
Searching for a *BSD LiveUSB creator, I found this utility.
And lastly, out of my Wikipedia trip, UNerbootin seemed like something you may want to try out.
