Using Fn on Linux

Post by Xian Nox » Sun Jul 01, 2012 8:13 am

When I try to map some keyboard shortcuts on KDE, for example for the volume control, I can't use the Fn key my laptop's keyboard has. Instead I can use Meta, but I was curious if there was a way to use Fn.

I think the Fn key on notebooks usually doesn't create a keycode for the operating system. Instead it is directly used by the bios/hardware to control functions like the volume or display brightness.

Hmm... I was expecting to get the Fn detected as well while setting the bind. Not having any feedback made me think it didn't work at all.
Fn+F12 is read correctly as a media key for volume up, and so are the others I've tried so far. Thanks for the reply.
