Post by Darkrainbow » Tue Feb 21, 2012 5:53 am

Yeah, so my computer is kinda lagged.
When I turn on any software it puts fan speed to 100%...
Also, the termperature of processors seems to be about 90 degrees :(
Its HP Probook 6550b

So, whats wrong ?

If the hardware is clean and untouched, there's only one thing that can be wrong: Windblows.

I know that you developers hate windows, but that can't be the problem (can it ?).

Because about 20 people have the same laptop that I have, and their laptops are running 40 when the same app is running.

I don't hate it, I just don't like it because it's bloated and has little to no improvements over previous versions, but introduces a heck lot of compatibility issues.

I can't come with another reasonable explanation. If it's not the hardware, the problem is in the software. So unless you have stopped the heat flow, I don't see what else can be causing it.
Here's what you can do: get a live CD (can be Windows too), and run it. If it doesn't overheat, then the OS is at fault.

I don't "hate" Windows. I'm stating facts. Windows is closed code, you can't know what it's doing behind the scenes (check this, for example). It could be possible that Windows got some "counter" that makes it work worse over time (a thing that doesn't happen with other OSes...), just to make you buy a new PC. You can say I'm paranoid (or not), as you would if I said about te NSA key... Everything can be possible with closed source code, and I won't trust such closed code for important stuff.

Yawn...

OP, is it possible that some background program is simply failing and puts 100 % CPU load on all the time? Check the task in the task manager for high CPU usage. Did you change any power related settings to "performance mode" or something?

100% CPU usage on windows can easily happen if you have a virus too, I would run a virus/spyware/malware check.

Edit: also in my case, Firefox is a memory pig and can put my machine to a halt.... as JJS said, your first step is to identify the process that takes all the CPU, so ctrl+alt+del and "process manager" :)
If you need US PSN Codes, this technique is what I recommend.
